Is there such a thing? :confused3 My brother and his fiancee will be getting married next fall and we started talking about favors. Has anyone been to a wedding were they've done something "cool" as a favor? They are pretty un-traditional and hippish :hippie: The reception will be a combo of inside/outside if that factors in to any of your suggestions.

Hi there!

Well... we did two favors.. a candy buffet! It was soooooooooo awesome and such a hit!

And since we had a destination wedding we also gave OOT (out of town) bags full of goodies, snacks, water proof cameras, mugs for drinks, then a "hangover kit" it was way awesome!

But a candy buffet is always a huge hit!
I have also known people to do donations to the cancer society in place of a favor, I thought that was nice!

A candy buffet would go over well with the bride... she loves candy! But I'm not sure the catering place would allow outside food in.. she'd have to check into that... there will be at least 100 people there. That would be A LOT of candy! Heck I'd skip dinner and head right over there :lmao: Most people will be in driving distance to the place too... My brother isn't much into planning this so its basically me and the bride doing it all (plus I'm helping pay since our (mine and my brother) parents are gone... I've signed myself up to pay for the favors along with other things)

I like favors that I can turn into a Christmas Ornament - I have a collection going all the way back to when we got married 23 years ago.

My favorite was a November wedding, the favor was a snowflake ornament with their names & wedding date on it.

I would rather have something that could be eaten (candy or almonds) or used up (candles or mini champagne bottles or bubbles) over something that would have to be dealt with (photo frame or a CD or anything I wouldn't know what to do with that would make me feel bad for tossing after a few years.

The best favor for me so far was homemade pressed paper with a cute poem written on it about the couple and a new life to grow that was imbedded with seeds. After the wedding, you plant the paper and little flowers were grown!

My boss from my first job had "shot bottles" of Jameson whiskey for their wedding favors. She had a liquor store order 200 of them; and tied pink curling ribbon on them and put one at each place. It commemorated their first date, when they drank . . . Jameson shots.

Two of my friends are cancer survivors and for both of their weddings there was a little note at each place that in lieu of a favor a donation was made to the American Cancer Society. Better then candy I probably wouldn't eat anyway of some little thing I'd have to move from place to place and eventually get rid of.

Now this is an idea they might love! As nice as the donation favors sound... this is more them. :rolleyes1 Wonder how much these little bottles cost.... off to look. Thank you for this idea! Seriously... this is so them. :lmao:

My cousin and her dh are avid bicyclists. Their wedding favors were fairly large chocolate bars imprinted with bicycles.. very cute and quite tasty. The bars were done by a local chocolatier. I think this was my favorite wedding favor I had ever been given.

My daughter did imprinted colorful Martini glasses.. as they had signature cocktails at the reception. They were delightful... however some were not taken home by guests. :confused3

I like the Jameson bottles idea too... cause I do enjoy me some Jamesons!:thumbsup2

They should let you. We did it at two locations.. no problem. It was a lot of candy .. we served 200 both times.. and it was such a hit! Loved it!

we did can cozzies for our daughter's wedding. My husband designed the front of it. everyone loved them. they used them for their drinks at the reception.

sorry about no capitals. my shift button isn't working

I'd like to second the donations.

While I had a "cookie" bar at my wedding (people could pack up all different sorts of hommade cookies my mother and MIL made before the wedding), looking back, I wish I had done donations.

If your family chooses to go with donations, there are lots of options! :)

It seems like the last few weddings we went to, people were getting away from favors. It's a lot of extra money for something that I don't think will be too missed and certainly not expected.

I loved what my niece did at her wedding.....there was sooo much food and a huge dessert offering. There was no way anyone would be able to enjoy wedding cake too. I wondered where the wedding cake went? Only to find out on our way out, it was sliced up, wrapped up pretty into little packages and put in a large basket for everyone to take a slice home with them. It kept until the next day when we could really enjoy it and had fun talking about the fun we had. I thought it was a great idea!

I'm getting married in 37 days :scared1:!!!
We're doing donation favors to St. Judes!

What a truly wonderful idea! :thumbsup2 Congratulations on your upcoming wedding!

The best wedding favor I've ever received is sitting right next to me. It was a set of four coasters, stacked and wrapped up with a ribbon. There is a space to put a photo inside. We have 4 people in our family, so I put a picture of each one of us inside and we keep them in our living room. My coffee mug is on it right now. They are black and white and really gorgeous.

We got married on kentucky derby day, so our favors were OTB tickets, and we sent the winners their money with the thank you notes (they could turn them in themselves, or to us, and we'd do it).
