Good price for airfare during holidays?

What do you consider a good price for airfare during the holdiays? We are booked from 12/27 to 1/3 and airfares are through the roof!

We fly out of Chicago, and prefer MDW over ORD. I can usually get ~$200 RT per person but it seems to be closer to ~$500 RT pp this time!

Since I've never traveled during this time of year, I knew that prices would be higher, but it seems to be too high even for the time of year to me!

Are these prices reasonable for holiday travel to you?

I don't track fares from MDW and would expect them to be lower, but those fares are typical for what we are seeing out of STL. You are traveling at a peak time and looking at flights that for Southwest have been for sale for nearly three months, so any initial lower fares are long gone and new sales are unlikely.

It looks like every other airline--excluding Spirit--is running about the same as SWA for non-stop flights. Spirit is running $275 RT out of ORD for non-stops, but everything--and I mean everything--on a Spirit flight is an additional charge. Delta has some one-connection flights in the $350 range out of ORD.

You may want to check Allegiant for airports in your area.

If you are used to using DME, then don't forget to add costs for transportation between the airport and Disney when comparing Allegiant fares as they fly into Sanford, not MCO, and DME is not available.

I think going to Rockford or Bloomington would be closest for the OP.

we were able to get Delta out of AUS the same time period for $220 RT and that was by far the best available fare, including SW.

I always fly out of Midway and just booked our Easter flights at $400 on the day the schedule opened up . I expect they will get higher. That said - we went last spring break and paid about $325 but the week wasn't attached to Easter last year. We also went this summer and paid $260. I think the days of $200 during peak season are gone.

Good luck!

We went over Easter last year and got it for $200 RT. I really am hummed by these prices! I've been looking at fares for awhile now and they just never got low at all this time!
