My birthday is coming up soon, and DH wants to take me out to dinner. We have exausted all of our good 'ol stand bys, and want to see any new suggestions. We live in Monmouth County, but would be willing to travel a little. Plus, we don't really want to spend more than $75-$100 total.

TIA

There are a few restaurants in Pier Village in Long Branch. What type of food are you looking for?

True, they do have some nice places, but they are all pretty expencive. That Avenue place seems very nice - trendy - but I'll have to see the menu. DH is very picky!!!

Thanks!

For NYC I recommend Carmine's on 44th for Italian, Virgil's also on 44th for ribs, Bar Americain on 52nd, and Mars 2112 on Broadway & 51st (not for the food, but because it's different).

Oooh - Bar Americain - thats a great idea. I know my DH has been wanting to go there too (we love bobby flay). I'll have to run that one past him and see what he thinks. The only problem is, is we would have to put train tickets on top of the actual meal for the total cost, but what the hell, its my 29th birthday!!

Thanks again!

Change in plans. I'm thinking Mesa Grill. Still a bobby flay restaurant, and its more our taste. Now I just have to get DH to agree!!

We really like Bistro Ole in Asbury Park, Teak in Red Bank and, if we're totally splurging/celebrating - Le Fandy Bistro in Fair Haven.

We love Asbury - we go to Old Man Raffertys and Market in the Middle, and Brickwall all the time. Last time we went to Bistro Ole my steak smelled like dirty old socks, so I'm gona take a pass on that one :lmao: Haven't been to Teak yet - I'm sure I'd enjoy it, but not DH. And I've never heard of Le Fandy Bistro in FH. I grew up in Rumson, but lived there last in 2000, so its been a while.

Thanks for the ideas though!!!!

Virgil's has the best BBQ north of Memphis. Amazing. I have sent hundreds of people there and every single one has loved it!!! :thumbsup2

Ok, now I'm thinking maybe Virgil's because DH and I have both been on a BBQ craving! I'm reading Tripadvisor and its getting mixed reviews.... but so did Mesa Grill.... Guess I'll just have to figure it out for myself!!

I'm 29 too, and we have a summer spot in Manasquan :)

If you have wine, you're going to spend more than $100, but you'll save the NJT tix to NYC, so maybe you can work it out -- my DH and I LOVE Restaurant Nicholas in Middletown. I am convinced that this restaurant could hold its own against any top 10 spot in Manhattan. It is incredible.

If you like Asian-- Ruby Foo's on hmmm...54th maybe? It's right north of Times Square (so not as "in TS" as Carmine's or Virgil's) and it's delicious!!! Their special is dim sum-- you order a bunch of appetizers and share them. There's a built in lazy susan in the middle of every table. Of course you could always order an entree or sushi too, but the dim sum is my fav! The most DELICIOUS lettuce cups, ever, without a doubt.
