Can anyone recommend a good area or specific hotel to stay at between Kings Dominion and Baltimore? Going on a road trip and stopping at King’s Dominion for a day but my husband wants to stop at a museum in Baltimore the following day. Baltimore hotels are a bit $$$ for someplace we are just going to rest our heads for a few hours after we leave King’s Dominion. Can someone recommend a good budget friendly (preferably $200 or less) hotel/area between King’s Dominion and Baltimore? Also not opposed to staying near the Baltimore airport if someone has a good hotel recommendation there and that is our best option.

I can't recommend a specific hotel, but I can recommend not hanging out in the KD area once you are done there if you plan on hitting the Baltimore museum the next day in the AM. Personally, I would hike up the road to the area then stay the night.
Depending on the time of day, you could be looking at a several hour drive between KD & Baltimore. We have stayed at several of the BWI hotels prior to flying out and many of them are just fine. I think they may have links to the ones in the immediate area on the BWI website...I think the technical address is going to be Timonium.
Have fun-

I agree with previous post. If you have the mental/physical gas to do it, you want to get north of DC before stopping. I95 from northern Virginia to DC beltway can be a parking lot in the morning - then you have to fight the DC beltway. Whew.

For a place to lay your head, there is a variety of hotels in the Columbia area and BWI area. Not sure if you have any hotel affiliations but there's Holiday Inn, Hampton Inn, in the $100-125 range. You wouldn't vacation there but fine for over night.

I'm from MD in the DC/Balt suburbs. Even a KD passholder! We tend to camp at the KOA next door in Doswell and stay a few days. When we just go for a day trip, we suck it up and drive home to the suburbs north of DC.

Have fun! Love that place. Recommend eating at Grain & Grill, Firehouse BBQ or Outpost Cafe. Get a funnel cake. Dominator, Grizzly, Racer 75, Twisted Timbers are all awesome. Nice water park too. Charming classic rides as well.

Anyway, if you have the energy, please get yourself north of the beltway. Anything on i-95 from Beltsville to Burtonsville to Laurel to Hanover should be okay. Jessup is a little sketchy though. The drive to Baltimore will be easy peasy.

If you're in the park super late and have zero energy, maybe at least try to get to Springfield VA. The drive to Baltimore will suck just a tiny bit less.

An alternative would be take 207, the next exit at Ruther Glenn. Gas up there, used to be great gas prices. Take 207/301 all the way up. That bypasses all the 95 traffic in northern VA. You only have a short trip on the beltway before you jump off towards BWI. About 2 hours. Pretty drive and you do hit some traffic lights but in my opinion, better than 95. I lived in the area west of Baltimore and that's the route we always took.

Yeah! 301 is a great option if you're launching into mid-afternoon/early evening rush hour traffic.
