Hi.

Could you guys recommend some good restaurants in the Orlando area? Also, we are travelling with the in-laws this time (sigh!) and I know my mother in law will insist on eating fish on Good Friday, so any help there would be appreciated. We'll be there for 3 weeks this time and I'm going to try some trip reports if time allows.

Our favourite restaurant from our visit in February was Friendlys on International Drive. Good food, nice & comfortable surroundings, excellent service and value. Their steak & shrimp platter was simply delicious.

I'm sure others will be along with their personal recommendations!

I would definitely recommend Chilis and Olive Garden. Chilis is my fave restaurant (as most people on these boards know hehe) and the food is great. There is one on International Drive, one near Florida Mall, another on the 192 and one on the 535 - and yes, we've tried them all lol. Olive Garden also has restaurants all over and their food is fantastic, if you like italian that is. I'm pretty sure most of the restaurants will do fish, but you could always try one of the lobster/fish buffets - can't think of any names but I'm sure other people have tried them.

What type of thing are you looking for? Everyday, value for money family restaurants or something a bit more special?

As far as fish goes, one of our current favourites is BlueZoo at the Dolphin, but it is very upscale (read expensive ;)) and not really suitable for children (not sure if you have any). Flying Fish at the BoardWalk is also very good - classy without being intimidating. We also discovered McCormick and Schmick's for the first time last July. We ate at the Mall at Millenia location for lunch. It was nowhere near as expensive as we'd expected it to be, although the decor is a bit 'clubby' so you might want to wear something just a little smarter than shorts and t-shirt.

For general dining, The Cheesecake Factory at the Mall at Millenia is a great option - something on the menu for everyone and a nice atmosphere. We've eaten there around half a dozen times now and I'm not fed up with it yet.

Other favourites include all three restaurants at Gaylord Palms (Sunset Sam's Fish Camp - another one for your m-i-l! - which is set partly on a sailing boat inside the hotel, Villa de Flora (a mediterranean buffet), and Old Hickory Steakhouse); Ruth's Chris Steakhouse on the Sand Lake Road and Hard Rock Cafe at Universal's CityWalk (another of which we never seem to tire).

I could go on and on - I can think of at least 20 more - but I guess I should stop now :) .

we normal eat in the Ponderosa, all you can eat buffet, and really cheap.

You can usually find them on International Drive and 192, very popular, as they have them dotted all over the place.

we jsut got back on friday and we went to Olive Garden, lovely food!!! They are so helpful there too because we are all awkward funny eaters. Highly recomment them. Also we visited TGI Fridays and the food is great there too.

A couple of our favourites are:-

Darryls (on International Drive and 192)
Ruby Tuesday (on 192)
Houlihans (on I Drive)
B Line Diner (in the Peabody hotel on I Drive)
Bennigans (2 outlets on I Drive north and south)
ESPN Zone (Disney Boardwalk, take the boat from Epcot)

and for an extremely healthy option Sweet Tomatoes at the Universal end of International Drive.

As a rule we tend to avoid the dinner buffets although I know of many people who swear by them. Its all down to individual taste at the end of the day.

Happy eating

Julian

We got home last week and our eating out places were

I-drive
sizzler and golden corral either for breakfast or tea.
friday's sport grill(great as we had the virgin kids eat free card)
tgi fridays
pizza hut
denny's

Elsewhere
Planet Hollywood
Hard Rock Cafe
Mcdonalds, Burger King, IHOP, and Taco Bell were all tried for snacks.

Olive garden always got a great write up we just never managed to eat there.

So many to choose from but these were our favs on our last trip

Tony Romas on I Drive - Love those ribs!!
Chillis (our DD4 absolutley loved this place and still goes on about it to this day)
Darryls on I Drive (choc cake is superb)

We found the best for quantity and quality to be The Golden Corral. Locations all over Orlando, but the Crossroads location is the best.

How come nobody has recommended Bahama Breeze yet! ;)

Fantastic food and service. My favourite restaurant in Orlando, they are on International Drive. Do seafood aswell for Good Friday :)

We tried Olive Garden in New York on a recent trip - fantastic. Also tried Chilis in Boston having read your trip reports...gotta agree with you again :)

Tony Roma's - Best ribs I've ever had, even better when you get in on one of their 'endless slab' promotions - All u can eat basically :) One year we went they ran this offer daily for a month, it now seems to be on Monday's only? Not 100% though.

Hi

Thanks for all the advice and ideas. I like the idea of Blue Zoo if we can get ps. Have tried many of the others and agree they are fantastic - my wife informs me we will be re-trying...and re-trying again the Cheesecake Factory!
