Dan found out today that he has been accepted in Honours Arts/Fine Arts at the University of Waterloo. He is so relieved to have heard something! He has been on pins and needles waiting. He still has to hear from Western and Carleton, Western being his first choice.

Even though I am very excited for him, I suddenly feel $15,000 (first year) poorer! :( ;)

Congrats to Dan AND to his mom and dad!:bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce:

Congratulations to Dan. My DD just returned her acceptance to Wilfrid Laurier this week. She is going into the business program and I am so excited for her.

Congratulations Dan! My son applied to 5 universities. He's been accepted at Ottawa and Brock. Still waiting to hear from Waterloo, Mac, and Western. Western is also Colin's first choice. It's pretty nerve-wracking waiting for that all-important envelope!

That's wonderful news Julie!:)

Congratulations Dan and I can just imagine that big smile on mom and dad's faces too!;) :)

What wonderful news!! I face this next year and the thought of the bills while I'm still paying off my student loans doesn't seem right somehow.

Keeping fingers crossed for Western.

Congrats to Dan!

Tink42: My dd just received the presidents centennial scholarship from Laurier today for Financial Math. Looks like she'll be heading to Laurier in September also!

Fingers and Toes crossed for their first picks!

Congratulations to your DDs, Tink42 and PoohBWV and your DS Nancy! :)

Dan applied to 7 programs between the 3 Universities, all art, computer design or architecture related to cover all his interests. He knew in March that he didn't get accepted into Architecture at Waterloo because he didn't get an interview, so he's been very nervous about his other choices/universities. The look on his face was priceless when he found out the good news today.

Congratulations to Dan...I was wondering how he made out. Maybe if he goes to Waterloo we can have a mini DIS meet there with PoohBWV some time...DS goes to Wilfred Laurier as well.

I know how you feel about being $15,000 poorer...last year we had 1 to pay for & this year we have 2 . Managing to find "Disney Funds" is getting tougher & tougher - that's why I want to do this trip in October for DD's 16th birthday - it may be the last time we go back for a while (she graduates in 2 years). I guess that's what DH & I get for having 3 kids in less than 4 years. ;)

Congratulations to everyone who's been accepted & good luck to those who are still waiting. I know it can be tough.

I'm liking the idea of a mini DIS meet in Waterloo. I'll probably need one after dropping dd off there.

PoohBWV - If you're like me...you will need something to cheer you up. I dropped DS off in the morning & was suppose to spend the day & night at my friend's house in Waterloo & head back to Ottawa the next morning. Well I was so upset about leaving him behind (he didn't blink an eyelash & just wanted me "out of there") that I left Waterloo within an hour & cried all the way back to Ottawa (I got quite a few concerned looks at stop lights on my way out of town - but maybe Waterloo residents are used to that sight ;)). It was so hard seeing my first child "off on his own". But now he's home for the summer & I can't wait to send him back to Waterloo ;) ;)

I started crying already yesterday when she got her scholarships offers. It's a combination of being so proud of her, but also realizing that this is really going to happen and she's going to be leaving. I know I'll be on the phone or ICQ to her as much as she'll let me!

I cried when DS got his scholarship offers too...but for me it was because he didn't choose either of the 2 Universities that offered him $13,000...he chose the one that offered $1500 ;)

I would have cried "for days, maybe years" at that Lisa! ;) I also thought that I might as well try and get another trip in because I don't know if we can do it much longer or at least go back so often. I'm almost hoping that Tim will stay an extra year in high school. I can come to Waterloo for a DisMeet even if Dan goes elsewhere as I spend a lot of time there anyway.

OMG - What made your son want to go to Laurier so badly that he turned down the other scholarship? My dd was offered $13000 at Windsor, and really didn't want to go there, but said she would have if Laurier didn't come up with more. I'm glad it has worked out for her and she is going to Laurier, but if it meant her not having to have student loans when she got out, I'm sure she could have been just as happy at Windsor.

DS took the March Break tour of WLU in 2002 & that was it...it was where he wanted to be. He liked the fact that it had such a good reputation for Business and that it was such a small campus.

The other deciding factor was that he really wanted to move away from home for University and be a part of campus life (which I can understand because I did the same thing & I do feel that it can be a very valuable learning experience - although not necessary important or possible for all people). The two Universities to offer him the largest scholarships were the local Universities: Carleton & Ottawa U (Western also made a pretty good offer but he didn't like having to wait until 3rd year to actually begin their Business Program). And to make matters worse when I think about the savings with those scholarships...he would have been able to live at home - not in residence. Oh well...DH & I had decided that as long as we were financially able, we would provide them with an education. He's hoping to get into Co-op next year so if he does, that will certainly help a lot.

It sounds like your daughter has great marks PoohBWV if she got the Presidents Centennial Scholarship from WLU, so she should get some pretty good offers and scholarships. Congratulations & Good Luck!

I know what you mean about them loving the small campus etc. When we first went for a campus tour last Nov. she really liked the campus, but we went back in March break and that was it. She knew that was where she wanted to be. I think there is a real sense of community at WLU and she felt safe there. DD was seriously considering business too, but when she learned about the new financial math program at WLU she jumped at it. She has always loved math (definitely does not get that from her mother) and is looking forward to this program. Which building did your son live in. DD is going into apartment style building - I think it's called Bricker. That was the other nice thing about her offer was they guaranteed her her first choice of residence, and Windsor did not so that makes her decision even easier.

DS was in "Little House" last year but has a 5 bedroom house on Ezra (right behind Bricker) with 4 other guys for this year...we started paying rent on it May 1st :(. He loves WLU & has gone to Western to visit friends and still says he likes WLU the best (he had been very tempted to go to the Richard Ivey School of Business at Western before seeing WLU). My niece is going into her 3rd year at WLU & she loves it...I'm sure your DD will enjoy it as well. It seems to have a great small community spirit.

We'll definitely have to try & get together for a coffee or something some time when we're both there...Julie says she can come up any time so we'll do a mini DIS meet...I'll bring lots of kleenex for you if we do it when you drop her off ;) ;).
