Good news for bus riders!

Oh No! Just when I was starting to feel at ease about using the buses. The two previous stories have got me worried again. Lets hope they do replace all the old buses soon...we don't want any repeats of those experiences.

Don't be worried their a lot more of the new buses then the old ones around two months ago they got delivery of 30 new buses. So i think they get 30 new ones every time they get a deliveries of them. Please don't be worried i understand that the old buses are harder then the new ones to load but hopefully soon they will be gone. I would say out of the 300 buses they own more then half are new buses.

I was there from Sept. 15 to 20th, and in that time only even SAW 1 of the old busses, and didn't even ride on it. No need to worry.

We just returned on the 21st, and only rode the old lift-type buses twice during our stay. I found them a bit tricky (I'm only temporarily disabled) and my DMIL was unable to navigate the lift at all. (OK, she had a lot of trouble with the ramp too - my ds loved helping to park the scooter!)

The much bigger problem for us was the new bus queues at the parks. Our resort (CBR) still had designated waiting areas for WC/ECVs, but we still had several times where the driver couldn't or wouldn't ask people to move from the designated areas to allow us to board. The queues at the parks were especially frustrating as there were almost never any CMs directing people, so we got stuck waiting while all the people behind us boarded. (No other WC/ECVs in front of us, just about 15 people or so and driver didn't want to ask them to move aside apparently.) I'd read so often that Disney treats disabled folks so well, but our experience definitely did not back that up!

Oh no...we leave tomorrow with TWO ECV's. I'm dreading the bus part. Hopefully all will go well.

I'm trying not to let my fear of boarding the busses overshadow the trip we've waited 3 years for!

I'm hearing the music from the Haunted Mansion in my head already! I can't wait!:wizard:

I've spent lots of time reading about using buses with ECV's since I've never done it & was considering it next May. I've made the decision not to do it. I wanted to save the money we always spend renting a car but I've decided it's not worth it. The fear of boarding the buses is not as bad as the fear of encountering people who are angry at having to wait while my ECV is loaded. If there are people in the world who would make a handicapped person feel like they're an inconvenience...I don't want to be aware of it.

I hope everything goes well for you. Let us know how it goes...maybe a few positive reports will make me reconsider. My daughter...who rides the buses frequently...tells me I better have thick skin to not let people bother me. I don't.
