I am trying to research some Good Neighbor Hotels and am not finding a lot of information.

Has anyone stayed at either the Desert Inn or Tropicanna? What type of room did you stay in and how did you rate the room/hotel?

Thanks in advance for any information.

I haven't stayed at either, but I visited the Tropicana last week, and the front desk manager took me around, and showed me the rooms. I really like this property - it is clean, the rooms are bright & don't have that musty smell that some economy/moderates have, there is a nice hospitality room (though continental breakfast is simple), the pool is a nice size, there are microwaves & small refrigerators in each room. Some rooms have interior corridors, there is a snack shop on premises, plus a gift shop. This property is within walking distance from the entrances to the parks.

I've stayed at Desert Inn and Suites. It was basic, but rooms were big and clean and very close to the main entrance of the parks. From what I've heard, Tropicana is similar.

For reviews, check Mouseplanet.com and go to hotel reviews. Click on the category that says something like "hotels on Harbor across from entrance." There are plenty of reviews there. Also tripadvisor.com is always my first go-to for hotel reviews.

Good luck!

We stayed at the Tropicana for five nights last month and were amazed at how much we enjoyed our stay. We love to stay onsite but it is so expensive we just can't swing it for each stay! The rooms at the Tropicana were nice sized. We are a family of four and had plenty of room and were also able to easily set up a rollaway each night. The bathroom sink area was very nice and spacious, with a long counter top, perfect for all my bathroom junk! The tub/toilet area itself was probably the cleanest I have ever had in a hotel, and we travel quite a bit. You could really tell the room had been rennovated by the looks of the bathroom/tub area. Each day, housekeeping did a great job, always leaving us plenty of extra towels, soaps and shampoos. The beds were pretty firm, which we like. I had seen many comments/reviews about the plastic covers they use on the mattresses. They didn't bother us a bit and were only noisy when we climbed in and out of bed. The regular cloth mattress pad covers all but the outer edge of the mattress and plastic covers underneath. I did see where those covers unizipped and it would have been a piece of cake to remove them. The front desk staff was great and very helpful. The free continental breakfast was minimal but since it was free, we didn't complain. And they had a nice bowl of apples and oranges which made for great snacks at the park later in the day. There is a McDonalds a few doors up as well as many full service restaurants right there as well. The pool was nice and warm and they have an oversized spa. They provide towels at the pool. The hotel has some nice landscaping details, not really grounds so to speak but a lot of nice plants in planters and some palm trees and bushes. The staff was always out and about, washing windows and the walkways, cleaning the pool etc. The walk to the turnstiles of either Disneyland or DCA is five minutes. I would definitely stay here again and in fact our experience was so good it really has made me and my husband rethink that $200 or more a night we have been shelling out at the Disneyland Hotel in the past few years!

P.S. We were just in a standard room, two double beds. We were on the second floor in the back part of the hotel and it was very quiet as we were far back from Harbor Blvd.

Every single time I goto DL, I stay at The HoJo Anaheim Plaza. I don't think you can find a better value. Everything from the ammenties to the location are just perfect for the price. I have no desire to ever stay anywhere else when I visit DL. It's PERFECT.

My .02 cents...

Check out my podcast for great stereo sound tours of DL. Info Below. Enjoy!
