Good Neighbor Hotels Question...

This question is for my parents, who love Disneyland, but aren't the type to spend any time looking for discounts and whatnot. That is where I come in. And that is why I really need your help!

So my parents are going to Disneyland in late September for a business thing and My mom has been looking at resorts and found one, but is not sure about staying there. It was the Desert Palms Hotel & Suites, which is only 2 1/2 stars in the unofficial guide. She said she could get the room for $89/night with her AAA rate.

However, I know my parents and they would not be very happy in a 2 1/2 star hotel. I want to offer them some other options that would most likely be more, but I could promise them a much nicer hotel. Also, walking distance isn't very important to them as much as quality of the resort.

For reference, they will be staying a Friday and Saturday night and spend Saturday in Sunday in the park. Also, since it is a business trip, they have the option of staying at Paradise Pier for $179/night, in comparison to their stay at the Desert Palms.

I was thinking of the Anabella hotel, but don't know much about it.

Does anyone have any suggestions for them?

I see Candy Cane Inn has a deluxe 2 Queen room for $122, standard queen room for $112, and they take AAA, so not sure what the discount might be. That's a nice hotel that is well liked on these boards. They have their own dedicated shuttle that runs to DL all day, a rarity. Most of the rest just point you at ART rapid transit, which is not the best or most convenient.

Check www.tripadvisor.com for reviews. CCI usually gets lots of good ones. So does Howard Johnson, but their rates aren't the best right then.

Here's a map with links to close by hotels: http://www.geocities.com/ashpsyche/DisneylandLinkMap.html

I would just have them give you their credit card and start bidding on Priceline. They could get a great 3 star hotel for under $60. Honestly, the worst they could get is a Holiday Inn with a 24 hour jacuzzi...how awful. If you are not familiar with Priceline just go to Biddingfortravel.com (too lazy to link sorry) and check their hotel faqs and see what people are getting. Priceline's quality levels have always been trustworthy for us-- we have never got a bad deal on Priceline. I know other people have, but I'm not sure they really did their research.

Check out the Anaheim Plaza Hotel. They usually have pretty good rates and it's in walking distance from the parks. We got their deluxe room (by chance) and it was pretty nice. I also like their pool. When we were there, it was 79$ a night. The price kept fluctuating, but I was satisfied with the final rate I got.

Too bad they charge 4$ a day for parking.

ya i recommend priceline.com i bid and used free re-bids (go to biddingfortravel.com) and got the Hyatt Orange County which is 2 miles away from DLand for only $63 a night..w00t :P

Thanks so much for the info. I have never used priceline.com before or the other bidding site. Is there a thread that maybe talks about tips when using either site? Or do you have some general knowledge to pass along?

Thanks!

Oh, and does anyone know of a simple way to find out what year any of the hotels were built? (Other than google-ing each separate hotel)

We have also used priceline and gotten a 3 star hotel (Anaheim Hilton) for $50/night. The only problem with Priceline is that you don't get to decide which hotel you want, you have to take the one that accepts your bid. If being within walking distance is a real priority than this wouldn't be a good route since you are most likely not going to get a hotel right across the street. But if they are OK with taking ART if they need than you can get a good deal on Priceline and probably pay less for a 3 star than you would for a 2 star if you dealt with the hotel directly.

to get the AAA discount on the candy cane internet booking system, use the code "dis" and it will be applied when available

All of my relatives stayed at the Anabella in 2006 when they came in town for our wedding. They have many different types or rooms to suit different kinds of groups. All of the rooms my family had were nice. And the grounds of the hotel are quite pretty. I have a few photos of the grounds if you'd like to see them. But I don't have any of the rooms.

They have the option of staying at Paradise Pier and aren't chosing that? BY 'they have the option' do you mean the company will pay for the hotel? I'd go for PP.

I agree....do the PP.

& they would also be able to take advantage of MM on Sat. & Sun. (but i guess you said they're only going into the parks on Sun).

fwiw, Sunday early morning (at DL) is great (till about 11am) & having MM makes it even better. (& older people....like me....like to get up early anyway....what time zone will they be coming from?).

If not the PP, I agree with the Candy Cane because of the dedicated shuttle which comes in handy. (but they wouldn't get MM).

Just to clarify... they can just get it at the discounted rate of $172 a night at PP(pretty sure its a standard room). But they don't want to pay that much. It is only paid for by the company for the first night they are there.

I have never stayed at CCI, but I did recommend a coworker to stay there this past 4th of July weekend. I recommened it to her becuase of the good reviews I see on here about it. She loved it!! And has already decided this is where she will stay again.
