Any recommendations on the good neighbor hotels in Downtown Disney? We are considering these as an option along with the WDW resorts. I would love to hear everyone's opinion. We are a family of 5 and need a place that will comfortably occupy us.

Thanks!!!!

Most of the DD disney hotels don't have any of the Disney hotel perks. Just to be aware when making your plans. In all honesty-- unless you find a spectacular rate I would just go onsite. IMO- I think the DD hotels are higher priced because of location. There are a lot of hotel within a 5-10 minute drive w/ the same standards and amenities for less. So, for that money I'd go w/ a moderate (POR and POFQ would be an option for your family size) and get the onsite perks. Also, possibly check out the Swan/Dolphin discounts in the sticky at the top of this forum to see if any apply to you.

We stayed at the Best Western DTD for a few hours when we got into Disney way too early to get our room at POFQ. I had been looking at this hotel as an option, but I'm super glad I didn't book it. It was fine for a rest stop for a few hours so we didn't tear each other apart from lack of sleep and too much travel, but I wouldn't want an extended stay there.

The room was clean-ish. There weren't any blood stains, but it wasn't particularly clean either and there was a skeevy feeling to the room...like there was stuff you couldn't see but made your skin crawl. The staff was very nice, but....for less money we stayed onsite and had clean rooms that didn't have a "skin crawl" factor. Also, there was a time share lady in the lobby who was literally yelling "Are you checking in?" to people across the lobby as they walked in the doors. My brothers, who have too much manners sometimes said yes, so we spent about 15 minutes listening to her speel until I could manage the words "No, thank you" and "Goodbye" without flat out interrupting her.

One thing I can recommend about this DTD hotel was the view. Our room had an Epcot view, we could see the ball, Swan, Dolphin, etc. To the left of the balcony was Saratoga Springs. I loved the view, had we not have had that view, I never would have known I was on Disney property.

If you can stay onsite, I'd recommend it. If not, research using Trip Advisor or another resource with lots of recent consumer reviews of the hotels off-site, you'll get a pretty good idea of what the hotels are like from reading all the different accounts.

Having just come back I would second the suggestion of either stay at a Disney hotel or completely off-site. We stayed off-site in a 2 br condo that was literally 5 minutes from the DTD hotels for probably 1/2 of the price. We cut through DTD on our way to the parks everyday so we drove past those hotels and scratched our head about the point of them being "good neighbor" hotels. They are not significantly closer than some off-site places and theres no Disney appeal in that area. (Although a couple of them are within walking distance of DTD if that's a factor in decision making).

Thanks for all of the info. I think that when we go we will most likely be staying on-site. There are just way too many perks. The character towels, the bus service (ours was quick the last time we went) and it was very clean.

Thanks again!

Just remember not to count on the perks you just mentioned. The bus service can be either very quick or soooooo slow. Also, the towel animals can be hit or miss too. So many people come back and post how mad they are since they didn't get a 1 and they expected them.

The perks like EMH is defintely worth it though in many situations, especially during peak times.

of the moderates only POR has sleeping for 5. It has 2 double beds and a trundle bed - that is all.

you can also rent points from a DVC member for a 1 -bedroom. (if you want more room get a 2-bedroom). it has a king bed in the master, and queen sleeper sofa in the livingroom - OKW has a love sofa enough for small child to sleep on (about the same size as the trunde bed in POR).

there will only be bedding for the king bed and queen sofa - you will need to bring bedding for the other person. OKW will not supply either cots or bedding or towels for the fifth person.

the 2-bedroom sleeps 8 and there is enough bedding and towels for 8 people.

a studio sleeps 4 - off season 8 points so around $80 a night
1-bedroom sleeps 4 to 5 - off season 16 points so around $160 a night
2-bedroom sleeps 4 to 8 - off season 22 points so around $220 a night.

this is only Sun-thurs nights - Fri/sat is ALOT more. these prices are only through renting points from a DVC member and staying at OKW....

can't beat a disney hotel, stay on the grounds, wide choices between value, moderate, and deluxe....Pop Century close to Epcot and reasonable compared to DD Hotels....good luck!
