We are going to my DH's holiday work party at Knott's. This will be our first time to CA. How could I be in the beautiful state of Ca and not visit DL. From my research, it sounds like the best idea would be to stay at one of the Good Neighbor hotels (Best Western??)close to DL. My question is how long would it take to go from that area to Knott's. If it's not a bad ride, I may suggest staying near DL for the whole trip instead of moving to a hotel closer to Knott's. Thanks!

About 15-20 minutes to Knott's with no traffic. You can take surface streets, too. But I don't know which ones.

Personal preference - go closer to DL, the hotels usually are a little nicer than those that are much closer to Knott's. Although some down there are older but still nice and inexpensive. My first concern is that you choose a hotel that has a shuttle to Disneyland, especially if you're going to go for more than a day. Some do shuttle to both parks.

Does anyone have a suggestion as to which Good Neighbor hotel to stay in. I would like to be in walking distance. A nice clean room is important. I don't care about the pool. Thank you!

North on Harbor, Right on La Palma. See theme park on the right...

but the freeway should be clear. you might hit traffic getting on the 91 from the 5 but you get off the first exit on the 91 which is right away... should get there quicker.. no traffic problems...

they also have a bus system that will take you there....

Here is a view of the Disneyland area. http://www.beachcalifornia.com/dlmp.html
On the right side of the photo is Harbor blvd and going down from that it says hotels, hotels. They are motels but they are a 5-7 minute walkt to the front gates of DL and DCA. My Favorites are the Howard Johnson, The Cnady Cane Inn and Best Western Park Place Inn (which is the closesT). Other decent ones are, The Fairfield Inn, The Tropicana, The Carousel, The Desrt Inn ans Suites, The Best Western Anaheim Inn.

The Candy Cane is wonderfully clean and within walking distance of the parks. They also have a dedicated shuttle, not the shared metro service which rivals WDW's bus transportation.

Candy Cane also provides a lovely continental breakfast. The breakfast room is small, so I suggest you either get an upgraded room where they bring you your breakfast, or use the tray provided and take your food back to your room.

The linens, comforters, and towels all exceed Disney's quality on these important, but not flashy, items.

Thank you for the link. Candy Cane looks very cute. Definitely a consideration.

For the closest hotels then BWPark Place Inn, Tropicanna, Carousel Inn and Camelots are all popular here and literally a 5 minute walk. A little further away are HoJos and Candy Cane (just over half a mile), both also very popular. All have different strengths and weaknesses it depends on what you are looking for.

We used the local bus service to get to Knotts with no problems. I have the bus numbers in my diary if you want to know more...

I would suggest staying at a Good Neighbor Hotel, rather than near Knotts, simply because I predict that once you've been to both parks, you'll want to spend more time at DLR!

The CCI is very nice for the $. Clean, decent breakfast and dedicated shuttle (although we also walked it one night).
