Thanks to the strike, I got to work at 6:45 AM this morning. Here's what I've learned so far today:

I can function at 6:00 AM. Maybe I really am a morning person (highly doubtful, and once the strike ends, I am getting up at my usual 7:30 AM).

You can get a cheap breakfast in the employee cafeteria! I got eggs, bacon and some hash browns for $3.00. I feel better than I did yesterday, wherein I ate Christmas cookies washed down with Diet Pepsi, and had a splitting headache by 10:00 AM.

I can actually get a lot of work done before everyone else gets here. Office hours start at 9:30 AM, and the phone never stops ringing. I can actually concentrate on one task at a time. I don't have Adult ADD -- who knew??

Can't wait to find out what Day 3 will bring.

Glad to see you are making the best of a bad situation. ANy word on when the strike will end??

No word, but I imagine it will end when someone finds Roger Toussiant and kicks his butt from here to New Jersey.

Do you mean to tell me that cookies and Diet Pepsi aren't the best breakfast you can have?? :rotfl: I just finished up a can of honey roasted peanuts and a Diet Coke - maybe I should come eat with you tomoroow!!!

Good luck - hope this resolves itself soon!!

AMEN.

ABC reported that between 800 and 900 MTA workers have crossed the picket line and showed up asking for work. Not a huge amount but hopefully the start of a trend.

Unfortunately I do not think Toussaint can back down now so I think the strike will go on at least as long as they have money to pay the fines, so 4 days at most. I'm kind of hoping at that point international will step in and broker a deal.

So, how is everyone getting around?? I can only imagine the chaos. I lived in Manhattan a few years ago, just for a short period of time. It was great as long as you had transportation. Tried driving...that was a nightmare.

I'm working from home but frankly I hate it. Too many distractions (like the DIS, for some reason at work I don't even open my browser!) I can't wait to go back to work.

I walked in this AM again. At least I'm getting some excersise :)

I'm really worried aout getting out to JFK for a flight tomorrow afternoon. The flight is at 4 - I plan to leave my office (in Union Square) around noon, walk to Penn Station, get on a train to Jamiaca and take the Air Train to Jfk. HOPEFULLY - the lines at Penn won't be too bad around 12:30 PM.

Hey FergieTcat! We're neighbors! I live smack on the border of Forest Hills and Rego Park, on Burns Street near Yellowstone Blvd.

Aint the strike just GRAND?!

Been walking 50+ blocks, one way, to work. Not fun, but hey, that's what we need to do to get to work. Man, if I can make it here, I can make it anywhere. :)

I sooooooooooooooooo have high respect for you all that are dealing with the walking , etc. thru this strike! I mean, the weather is something I have never dealt with (gee, does going to Lake Tahoe count going from casino to casino? :goodvibes

Serious! I told my co-workers how I am whinning about walking 5 blocks to my car at 5pm and here you people are walking 50+ blocks in the freezing cold! Yikes.

50+ blocks...........whereabouts is that generally start from and end at? How long of a walk are you dealing with? How far is 50 blocks? Isn't 10 blocks a mile?

What do people do that live far in the suburbs? further than 'just over the B bridge'?

Yeah, Yeah, I know, see my tag: too many questions......... :rotfl2:

My DD had an interview in the City today for an internship, so we took Metro North into Grand Central. Never realized that most everyone who rides the train passes their time by picking their nose. :earseek:

Luckily, the office that she had to go to is close to the train station. My sister works there and takes NJ Transit into the Port Authority.

frndshpcptn, we noticed very long lines of people with suitcases lining the street close to Grand Central. They were waiting to get on buses to the airports. You want to give yourself a ton of time tomorrow.

Picked up a Junior's cheesecake, got on the nose-picker express train, and am very happy to be back home.

I hope that this strike ends very soon.

I think the strike is awful. The union should all be fired!
All you guys in Queens, any luck taking the Green Line express bus?
I know one runs along Woodhaven Boulevard.

Good Luck to everyone living the 5 boroughs! :wave2:
