good hotel in charleston?

planning a visit in mid-october. any recommendations on where to stay. we want to visit the museums, shop, the yorktown, etc. open to any suggestions for reasonably priced places in downtown area or out on isle of palms or folly beach. any help is greatly appreciated.

My husband and I went a few years ago and liked staying in Mount Pleasant. The hotels seemed to be nicer and downtown wasn't that far of a drive plus you are right near Patriots Point.

The Homewood Suites in Mt. Pleasant is very nice. It is off the road to the Isle of Palms and just a few minute drive to the 17 that will take you into Charleston.

The Courtyard Marriott in Mt Pleasant was gorgeous and very "southerny" while being much more reasonable than our usual--Mills House which is downtown and lovely and a Holiday Inn hotel--but much pricier. The Courtyard is very convenient to everything although driving not walking.

We stayed at the King's Inn in Charleston last summer and it was GORGEOUS. I absolutely loved it. It's my second favorite place in the world besides Disney. It's great.

DH and I (plus our fur babies!) have stayed several times at the Radisson.... Its not right down town, (those ones are super expensive) and it is a gorgeous hotel! If you aren't a dog person, you don't even know there are doggies there - (they do have a rather high dog fee ). The rooms are gorgeous, and there are mini fridges which is a plus. Very nice bathrooms, too! Have fun, Charleston is a gorgeous amazing city.... Love it!

My sister just came back a week ago. They rented a cottage. She said it was awesome. It was in walking distance to everything they wanted to do in the historic district. If you are interested in this, pm me and I will get info from her. She did say it was a lovely city and would love to move there if she can convince her dh.

I've spent some time in Charleston, and I always recommend the following hotels to friends:

- The Francis Marion Hotel, on King St. (francismarioncharleston.com)*a favorite for feeling like old Hollywood

- Charleston Doubletree, near the city market (charlestondoubletree.com)

- Embassy Suites, near the tourism station (historiccharleston.embassysuites.com)*a favorite for being the old Citadel College

We've stayed there. It was an overnight so we weren't there long but I liked the hotel. There was a very convenient trolley stop.

Harbourview Inn - wonderful!!! Right at the water/pier, trolley stop out front, breakfast included (delivered in a basket to your room), wine and cheese hour in the evening, m$m's available all day, and those wonderful warm cookies and milk at night. Wish I were there right now!

Harbourview Inn and French Quarter Inn are owned/managed by the same company I think. My husband used to work in Charleston every other week and Harbourview was our home away from home. If the Harbourview was booked, they would make arrangements at the French Quarter Inn for you. A quick google search should bring up information on both.
