Good Historical Romance Book

Highly recommend Elizabeth Peters Egyptian series. Her other books are pretty good but this series is the best. It is about a woman who becomes an Egyptologist during Victorian England and she meets and falls in love and marries later in life. Very historical/romance/mystery with no blood but murder and mayhem.

I cant say enough good about Cassie Edwards and Karen Hawkins. They're not regency but they are historical.

I also have to throw my 2 cents in on Johanna Lindsey too. She was my favorite for a very, very long time.

Love Julia Quinn too.

Have fun.:thumbsup2

Someone mentioned Elizabeth Peters.

I loved the first Egyptian novels, and Amelia Peabody as a fantastic character, but the last 4 or 5 of that series bored me. Peters is an Egyptologist in real life and conveys that expertise. Also lots of well researched Victorian info.

Of Elizabeth Peters other novels -- I do wish she would go back to Jacqueline Kirby. Peters at her very best when she is funny. And she can be hysterically funny.

(Peters also writes as Barbara Michaels. Very light thriller, gothic, fluffy stuff. I'm not keen, but many might like them.)

Another serious suggestion: One of my favorite ever novels is by Sharyn McCrumb. "She Walks These Hills." Wonderful Appalachian history and a real gift for story telling.

Anyone else like Sharyn McCrumb's Appalachian/Tennessee novels?

:)Judith Merkle Riley. Her heroine is a mid-wife among other things in 1500-1600 England. It has been a long time since I read her books. She was on Oprah one time with Jane Aule (sp?) author of the Clan of the Cave Bear series. I would consider those very good and historical, extremely well thought out and researched.

I've been reading the book 'We Two: Victoria and Albert: Rulers, Partners, Rivals' by Gillian Gill. It's not a romance per se, it's a historical biography of them as a couple. I am really enjoying it. :thumbsup2

How funny its on my reserve list at the library.

I have read Phillipa Gregory and enjoyed them. I also really loved the books by Jean Plaidy. She wrote wonderful fictionalized historical novels about ~ Queen Elizabeth, King Henry , Catherine de Medici, Katherine of Arragone and others . Really awesome series if you haven't read them. She also wrote under the name Phillipa Carr and Victoria Holt. I also love Stephanie Laurens Cynaster series and the Bastion Club series.
