We are on Long Island and Cablevision has taken ABC off the air due to contract negotiations.

THIS MEANS NO ACADEMY AWARDS/LOST/MODERN FAMILY/GA/PP (yes we watch a lot of tv :confused3)!

What are these people thinking? Don't they realize that the gays will turn all ROCKY on their AS*** and personally storm the joint if they don't show the biggest, award show of the year.

Oh yeah, I am ready to BRING IT!

They'll sort it out. They always do. We just had a thing like that happen here. They said since it was a locally broadcast channel that people needed to have access to it in case of emergency, so the cable company wasn't allowed (per the FCC) to drop it. I hope your channel is back soon!! :wizard:

I wonder if it's an anti-gay conspiracy pervaded Pat R?:confused3

If you hop in your car now, you can make it Rochester just in time. We'll have beer and wings.

That's pretty stupid. Does that mean if people don't pay their cable bill, it can't be shut off because people need access to it in case of emergency? I am just amazed with the stuff the government gets involved in.

just make sure you get refunded your money for all the tv you lose. Sure is fun be a pain sometimes:stir:

That happened here between Time Warner and Fox. The only difference between these two scenarios is that Fox bites, and realized neither Time Warner nor their customers were going to give into their demands. They were back on the air in about 3 minutes. :surfweb:

No, I think their point was that cable subscribers were entitled to access. That a tiff between a network and a cable company couldn't deprive local customers of being able to view local content. Something like that. Obviously we would still have access to NBC, and their local content is largely the same, but whatever. Unless the cable company has an absolute monopoly it would be pretty bold to cut one of the top networks. I know if our cable company dropped the ABC affiliate we would switch to DISH or some other service for our cable.

I would too. But my point is I think the cable company should have the ability to choose what they are going to provide as a service. We as consumers don't HAVE to subscribe to cable, so why does the cable company HAVE to contract with networks if they have a problem. Again, my point is the government being involved. The government doesn't tell the local supermarket what newspapers they have to carry.

BTW, I'm stubborn when it comes to this kind of thing. :headache: Just ask my husband. :rotfl:

I think we as a consumer should have the right to pick and choose what stations we get. Personally I dont need any Shopping Channels, Spanish Channels, or any of the ESPN offerings. Yet I continue to pay for them on a monthly basis.

Couldn't agree more. I have a comcast bundled package. Every month I get my bill I go crazy. I could shut off TV, but my husband and kids would kill me. He wouldn't care if I shut off internet, but the kids would have a fit, but not as bad as I would. We have two phone lines/numbers but because my mother lives with us and couldn't go with out a phone shutting off the second line is minimal. We pay top dollar, have crap for channels and Comcast does nothing with us for promos because they are the only choice we have for high speed internet and they know it. UGH!!!

Seconded. :thumbsup2
Also the religious channels!

Latest update . . . there is NO update!

We still have NO ABC!!

We went to the Apple store to buy the wires to connect our lap (DOWN WALLY) top (again, DOWN WALLY!) to our TV so we can watch the Oscars tonight.

BEYOND annoying.

This whole thing is crazy - and not in a, "I woke up in Vegas on a bed in my boxers with a man I don't know" crazy!

Thanks for the offer - our friends have DISH network and told us we could come over there house- but we like lounging around in our pjs having cocktails!

Couldn't you just plug in some rabbit ears and pick up ABC??

When we moved into this apartment, BrightHouse was the only cable option, and our porch faces the wrong direction for satelite. But we still managed to get a good promo rate, and first month's free.
Now we can get Embark... but that's a worse idea than BrightHouse.

I think you have to have local access channels because of emergencies etc. You know, "The National Weather Service has Issued a Tornado Warning" blah blah blah. Or Amber Alerts. Or Tsunami warnings.

We don't have rabbit ears - do they even have them anymore? I guess I could ask Wally if we could borrow his horns . . . :lmao::lmao:
