Good Coffee

Starbucks coffee definitely has a distinctive flavor... it's a flavor that's an acquired taste. But once you have acquired that taste, it's soooo good. But that doesn't mean I don't appreciate other good coffees. Peets had been mentioned earlier in this thread. Yum!

I remember our last Disney cruise on the Wonder commenting on the coffee situation . I am a moderate coffee snob and was disappointed in the coffee. Being a 3 day cruise, I didn't bring my 4 cup coffee maker with me. I definately will this time, with all my fixings. Also the extension cord.

I remember telling crew members that the ship really really needs a nice coffee bar. It really wouldn't have to be very big, I can't believe that haven't done this yet.

Costco has a nice 4 cup Cuisinart( I believe) with 2 large insulated travel cups for $20.( No glass to worry about)
Target has a mr coffee 4 cup for about 15.

If you really love coffee, don't leave home without the coffeemaker and your favorite coffee and filters.!

I don't know about the coffee makers but I went on the X-mas Cruise I filled an old suitcase with Xmas lights and a 2ft tree from Target and a blinking Santa. I brought 2 surge protector power strips and an extention cord. I made my cabin so you could see the lights from the nearest cruiseship in the ocean.

Seems to me if they will allow that the little 4 cup jobber should not be a problem. My room stewart always entered my room singing Christmas Carols.

However, for safety purposes I would bring a "Good" surge protector.

I love a good cup of coffee in the morning! Actually, my kids might say I need a good cup of coffee in the morning:teeth: !

I have the neatest little portable french press insulated cup from Starbucks! I actually travelled through China with only a backpack for 3 weeks and had room for this little gem! It makes great coffee in a jiffy! All you need is some hot water. I highly recommend it!

I noticed that the room service menus posted on Barb & Tony's site list the coffee as 100% columbian. The Nescafe beverage station does not state that. That makes me wonder, is the coffee the same from room service as that at the beverage station. I can drink columbian coffee, although I prefer Green Mountain Coffee. I just cannot stomach the Nescafe.

By the way, the french press coffee carafe sounds like a good alternative, if I need to bring my own coffee.:earsgirl:

2much2do -- I say we meet on deck and enjoy our fine coffee together. :smooth:

Where are you staying at WDW before the cruise?

My problem wasn't the coffee, it was the fact that there was NO non-dairy creamer anywhere on the boat. If I'd known beforehand I would have brought some along. So, the coffee tasted pretty nasty to me 'cause I couldn't do the 1/2 & 1/2 or milk with my sugar. My husband is a coffee snob and he complained about the coffee on the ship, too so maybe it isn't the best. I have to admit we buy fresh roasted coffee from a local Seattle coffee house where they roast their own coffee in an antique roaster. Amazing stuff!!

On the 2002 Christmas Cruise the beverage station coffee was like drinking something with a cigarette butt left in it (convenience store quality at best). Room service coffee was no better. The coffee at topsiders was better, but the only "real coffee" was in Palos. But that's coming from someone who likes their coffee so strong you could stand a spoon up in it!

TeamMom011 - Absolutely! And then a brisk lap or two! Can you believe how close it is? I can hardly wait! We will be at the Wilderness Lodge before we sail. Me, my dh, 15 yo dd and 17 yo ds.

Were from Seattle, yup, Coffee snobs! We brought our own coffee and maker on our 7 day magic. And my husband the Micro beer snob WISHED he would have brought that too! Next time!

Yes, the Nescafe is nasty but while desperate, we tried it with so regular whole milk instead of the creamer they offer. It makes it much more palatable but you of course, need to like it with cream to begin with. I wish they even offered flavored coffees on board as an option, I missed my Einstein's Cinnamon Hazelnut while I was there!

Does anyone have the official word from DCL on the coffee makers? Some threads say yes, some say no...(I assumed we weren't permitted) I hate having to bug poor Rob at DU for the bizzilionth time!!! Moderators....any help? I wouldn't want to start off my cruise explaining to security my desperate addiction to the bean!

I must stake that I am not a coffee snob - Do like it, not obessed like I used to be - But I must say, the coffee on the boat is probably the worst I have ever tasted - And this is coming from someone who is not too particular about which brand of coffee I drink - I am even thinking about bringing my own on the next cruise!

The coffee in the restaurants and from room service is 100% Colombian and is NOT the same as that from the Beverage station.

I drink coffee every day and found the coffee onboard to be quite good, actually. I'm used to fresh roasted beans from a local, privately owned coffee house and didn't mind the shipboard coffee at all.

For years I looked for the "birthplace" of a coffee to determine whether it was high quality. Then, a couple years ago, a friend who was an executive at Caribou Coffee (a favorite here in the frozen and recently snowy Twin Cities) informed me that they can grow "crappy" coffee in Columbia just as easily as I could in my back yard. What you want to look for is ARABICA coffee. Not all arabica coffee is equal, but I've never had a terrible cup of arabica.

Maybe a Dunkin Donuts or Starbucks on board would be nice!!!:Pinkbounc

ok...I must be the worst judge of coffee character in the world...
I actually enjoyed the coffee on board....but I too put so much
sweetener and milk in it it kills most of the flavor......I actually
dont like Starbucks....too strong for my taste....oh well...I will
happily remain in the minority and will look forward to the pot
of coffee delivered to my room every morning in March '04!!!!
