We are going to LA for 5 days in August! Does anyone know if there are any good coffee shops in LA? (Besides Starbucks)

Thanks !

There's a Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf right across from Grauman's Chinese Theater. This coffeehouse was very popular when we were there!

The Green Room just west of the Egyptian Theater is a good local spot. A lot of aspiring musicians hang out there. There are two quieter ones on the corner of Cahuenga and Selma just south of Hollywood Blvd - I really like "Karma".

You might want to check out the Alcove. It's a coffee shop/bakery/restaurant located on what was once a house. I find it a fun and cozy place to just hang out and people watch. It mainly caters to the local residents of East Hollywood (artists, musician, and of course actors--I'd actually seen a few famous one there).

Not sure if you will have a car, but it's quite easy to get to using the subway. Just get off on the Hollywood/Vermont station. Go north on Vermont to Franklin (10 min walk). Make a right on Franklin. Then head east to Hillhurst. Turn right on Hillhurst and the cafe is on your left.

If it's the restaurant you're after and not the coffee (primarily), I'd recommend the Pantry at 8th and Figueroa. Take the Red Line Subway from Hollyweird to the 7th/Metro station.

Though this is not a coffee house, you are staying in Hollywood and I have to recommend Pig 'n Whistle on Hollywood Boulevard right next to the Egyptian Theater. If you want something really unique that harks back to Hollywood's heyday, go to Musso and Frank's on Hollywood Boulevard. Both of these two restaurants are located about one block east of Hollywood & Highland.

Depending on where in LA you are going to be, I recomend a coffee shop named SWORKS. It is in the Eagle Rock nieghborhood of LA. (Right off the 2 and 134 fwys.) It is way cool atmosphere...with also a "kid's area" in the back with carpet and books. They have so many different coffee drinks, amd many are unique to their coffee shop. (also many non coffee and kid drinks) Surronded by cool little shops for every taste. (Shopping, food, etc.)Nice area. Anyway..could go on, but if you are super intrested...write me and I will give you all the details. It may have more than one location, but not sure...I can find out.

ENJOY!
