Good Coffee at DLR?

Are there any places to get good coffee at DLR? It doesn't matter how hot it is, my DH loves his coffee. Last summer he even had coffee at the Hover Dam snack bar when the temp outside was easily 110 and we just got through walking across into Arizona and back.

So...I thought I would try to be prepared and know where to take him if he needs a coffee break.

Well, the Blue Ribbon Bakery on Main Street has good coffee, though I can see they are trying to emulate Starbucks in their prices! Are you talking about like a coffee place specifically, or just any old restaurant that serves good coffee? The coffee (regular and iced) is pretty good at most of the places that serve breakfasts and desserts, like Carnation Cafe, and also places like Goofy's Kitchen. I can't live without my java either but if I am desperate, I will usually take whatever is available! If I am not mistaken, Compass books in DTD serves good coffee and pastries! Many people were getting cocoa from there too and bringing it into the GCH.

Sorry hon, but there ain't no such thing as good coffee in DLR. It's all Nescacrap, unless you go to the Compass Book Store at the end of DTD near the DLH.

However, at the hotel restaurants and Ariel's I have had a "decent" cup of coffee. Not superb, but decent. I've been told it's a special Nescafe blend made just for the hotel restaurants.

Across on Harbor Mc Donalds. Over by the Anaheim Plaza in I think there is a little coffee place Cowabunga Coffee stand. There is a coffee cart in DCA that isn't too bad for a quick caffien surge. Personally, I would do Mc Donalds in walking distance.

Since I personally think Starbucks is just about the worst proper coffee (aka not in a can on a grocery store shelf) there is, I have finally realized and accepted that I LIKE the stuff at Disneyland.

Of course, I usually have iced lattes, so in those it's really not about the coffee, is it?

Storyteller's cup of hot coffee was yummy (special blend according to the server), and I liked my cups of coffee at Cafe Orleans. All the rest it's pretty much the same.

Sit down, or counter service- doesn't matter, I just wanted to know what was there or if anyone has somewhere they really liked. He will drink coffee that I think is yucky and will drink almost anything. I prefer dark roast and usually don't get coffee in restaurants because it usually isn't good.

Maybe that Compass Books sounds like a good place for an afternoon break.

Yep. Me too. I am glad I am not alone in that! They have the best frozen mochas and the best pastries and baked goods too!

Across the street from the Blue Ribbon Bakery there is a place to get coffee. I can't remember the name right now but it is on the corner. When you buy a cup of coffee you can get free refills all day as long as you keep your receipt. Can someone please help me with the name, I have mommy brain right now!

Could it be the Market House? Is that it? I didn't know that about the all-day refills, though. That is good info to know, because who hasn't had the mid-day lag and feel they needed a caffeine jolt? It would be great to just walk back in and get a refill!

Nobody mentioned this, but the coffee they sell at the Market house shop on Main Street is the best value in the park.

1) It's the Mickey's Coffee Company coffee - you can get regular roast, decaf, vanilla, or hazelnut - or even mix the flavors (we prefer half-decaf/half-vanilla).

2) (THE BEST PART - Drumroll please......) If you save your receipt - not the cup, just the receipt, you can go back and get FREE REFILLS all day! They'll give you a new cup each time. They have creamer and sugar off to the side, so if you add that, make sure to ask them to leave room in the cup for it.

We do this a lot, especially if we know we are coming in early and staying late for the fireworks. We have a 45 minute drive home at the end of the day (just to get to the other side of LA - gotta love it), so we need that extra jag.

I know. This is the first I had heard this information and I have been there a million times! That is why I love this message board. As much as we all love DL and know about it, everyone has something to contribute in the way of tips, tidbits of info, hidden surprises or nuggets o' trivia that can enhance everyone else's experience if they didn't already know these details. You can know 99 things about the park(s) and one person will offer valuable tip #100 that is EXACTLY the piece of knowledge you can use and were looking for!

We love the Blue Ribbon coffees, too. My husband's choice is the Coconut Mocha. My hot cocoa choice is still Coke Corner, though. Market House does do a nice White Chocolate cocoa, but I still can't seem to tear away from the good balance of the Nestle while watching fireworks.... (and at home I am a gourmet cocoa foodie snob )!

The lounge at the Napa Rose has a nice cappucino with rock candy stir sticks. Nice place to relax after a long day!

I write novels on here, too, so mine are always a few minutes behind! You're right, Nancy. Everyone's experiences at DLR are very personal and individual and specific, and something could have happened on your trip that will help one other person looking for that exact information, and something could happen on theirs that will help mine, etc. On another thread I was saying that as many times as anyone has gone to DL, you can still find ways to make new trips unique and exciting. You can do an all-shopping or browsing shops trip. And all-Hidden Mickey-hunting trip. An all-thrill rides trip. All kid rides. All boat rides. All Fantasyland trip. There are really endless ways to break up what there is to do there in different ways so it makes it seem like a new experience every time. And going during the holidays is a completely different experience altogether. So it never really gets old. My friend lives 5 minutes down the street from DL but says that whenever she steps foot in DL, it feels like the first time all over again. There is just that 'fever,' that 'snowball effect,' that we all pondered on another thread that takes over you and you are instantly a child all over again!

And because of this 'fever' that we all succumb to, we absorb every detail of every nook and cranny and nuance and pass on this wealth of knowledge, as well as learn from others who want to fill us in on their trips! It is great! Following the threads on this board is almost as fun as the actual planning for the trips themselves! It is gratifying to know that there are others who share the love of the Mouse, and you don't have to justify why you are so Disney-obsessed to them (like I do withe certain people I know!).

Oh, and, by the way, I didn't know that, either! I have walked by Napa Rose numerous times, but can you sit in the lounge if you don't eat in the restaurant? There is a lounge just off of the GCH lobby/hearth area. That is not the same lounge, is it? I know I saw folks getting hot drinks there. I like the idea of the cappucino with rock cnady! Clever!

Nope - not the same lounge. The Napa has it's own - go through the door and it's the seating to the right (we used to be regulars there, before the kids - now they fuss too much for a 2 hour meal). It even has an awesome outdoor patio with braisers for nighttime relaxing - you can see it from the path next to GRR, so that is the view you get. They grow grapes on the patio terrace, too. You can also get a selection of Napa menu items in the lounge.

Didn't you say in another thread you were trying to get on with Corporate or was that someone else? I hear you loud and clear, if that was you!

Oooohhhh, why didn't we go to Napa while we stayed there... we could have sneaked down for a drink at least while the kids were asleep. I want to try that thing with the rock candy stirrer!

Gonna try Compass Books when we go back, and see if they have a decent mocha.

I just saw a fridge magnet at a friend's house that cracked me up. It had a lady stick figure with kind of manic hair, and said, "Give the scary lady some coffee!"

Ok, I will have to check out the Napa Rose lounge next time. It sounds liek a great place to just sit and sip beverages and chat if you are not really hungry.

Yes, I think I am the one you are referring to regarding Corporate. I lost my job in February, and one of my best friends has a best friend who has worked for different departments and facets of the Walt Disney Company in Glendale and Burbank over many years. She has even stopped working for them at times and then gone back to them. So her last Disney job was with the Internet Group segment of WDC, and they basically folded and she lost her job. She decided to leave Disney again, BUT she still has many contacts throughout the different departments there. Since Disney mainly hires and promotes from within for their 'office' or clerical positons, it is hard to get in the door there UNLESS you know someone. They always have positions open on their website, but they primarily hire internally. So my friend's friend sent my resume to the recruiter she knew who worked with the Internet Group and put in a good word for me...and I never heard anything from the recruiter. Of course WDC has tons of recruiters for all the different factions of the organization, and this girl does know other people, but this lead did not seem to pay off for me.

Anyway, I remember she used to get great discounts, so that alone is a reason to want to get in the company. But all through my life I have heard people say that for a career, you should try to do things you love and I had never even considered working for Dsiney because it is kind of far from where I live. It was only in the last six months that I began to think, hey, I am not getting any younger and what do I love more than Disney? It seems it would be my dream job if I could get in there!

However, today, there are CMs protesting on TV at the PPH because they feel Disney is not paying them enough and making it hard for them to get insurance, so maybe I ought to re-think that idea!
