Good camera for my wife?

I am thinking of buying my wife a (new) digital camera for her birthday. We are currently without a camera. I am hoping to go no higher than $200 (hopefully lower) and am looking for advice on cameras that might be good. The camera would be used for basic picture taking and nothing fancy. Essentially it would just be her camera to take snapshots.

Any thoughts or advice on good cameras are appreciated.
