good bye - I can't take it any longer

So I'm reading these posts and here's my thoughts....
I work with PLENTY of people who don't get my Disney fascination. Do I get up in arms and freak at them? No, because its my thing, not theirs. No big deal. Thus, I won't get upset with OP. The podcast is my thing, not theirs, no big deal.

However I will say this. I will definetely listen and agree in all things with any podcast that gave me a freebie of a pony. I would listen to the podcast for the sole purpose of obtaining said pony. Yes, that makes me shallow. But I'll be the shallow person with a pony so there.:p

So far I haven't been given a pony by the DIS. And so, since the only reason I would purposefully listen to a certain podcast was to recieve a free pony, you can safely say I only listen to the DIS because I like it and think its fun.

Oh, and the pony HAS to be black.

Sweeet! John's giving away a pony now!!! AWESOME!! :lmao:
(insert Veruca Salt from Johnny Depp's Willie Wonka "Daddy, I want a new pony!" after her dad's worker found her the golden ticket)

In Tosh.0 fashion, lets go for a breakdown.

I agree with the "recent weeks" statement, but listen longer and things go in cycles. There are a lot of negative things Disney is doing right now, thus the call for the podcast. I bet next weeks show with the annoucement of the new ships will be pretty positive.

What do you want? A perfect world where they talk just about what you want to hear in just the right tone? There are lots of Disney podcast, I find most of them to be over top Disney is perfect. I listen on occasion but only listen to the DIS regularly.

I'm not sure what this even means exactly. We only send in emails/voicemails because we want lanyards? We only listen to get free t-shirts? To me is sounds more like sour grapes. This is a group that became friends without ever meeting. We met and became better friends, we add more and more to our group all the time and anyone is welcome. Do we get free stuff for agreeing with the podcasters, if so where do I send my address? Julie?? :)

That has been this weeks breakdown....

Very well said! :thumbsup2

Once I get confirmation that my DisUnplugged freebies are in the mail I will be posting to defend the crew. Now, where is my Kool-Aid.

Freebies? I did not know we get freebies!! Is that like getting paid for being in a lineup?
:rotfl:

Wow.

I have to be honest here and say that I'm more than a little disappointed in some of the responses on this thread.

I value HONEST feedback, and I feel the OP was being honest, not a troll. In fact, I'm inclined to agree with his assessment (assuming the OP is a he, my apologies if I'm wrong).

Over the last three years, I notice the show will go in ebb's and flow's in terms of tone and content. Lately, because of some of the recent policy decisions yes, we've been critical. But it's not a matter of tactic or intent - we are legitimately responding to the topic at hand with our honest feelings. I think this weeks show was fairly positive. The new "Sum of all Thrills" got a great review, as did the new "Princess Tiana" show at MK. We call it like we see it.

As for your comment about people hanging around for 'give-aways', that's a bit ridiculous. You may not find the show to your liking, but I can promise you, our listener base has never been larger, or more vocal and we've given away far fewer 'gifts' this year than we did last year.

However, with that expansion of the listener base will come more criticism and honestly folks, that how we make the show better. Anyone that thinks we've reached the pinnacle of podcasting here is delusional. There are so many ways for this show and experience to improve it's obscene. We REALLY need to embrace HONEST commentary even when we disagree with it. After all, isn't that what so many like about the podcast? We tell it like it is. I'm sure there are many people who disagree with me on my opinions but I don't openly mock them. Yes, there have been more trolls on this board as of late, but let's not lump everyone who feels we need to improve into the troll category. That's unfair and we need to be as open to the criticism of others as we want Disney to be open to ours.

I really think the OP deserves an apology here and I would ask all of you who love the show to embrace what I hope is a core principle of it - tell it like it is. We may not always like what we hear, but we'll learn far more if we value HONEST opinion. End of lecture :)

Pete

Pete, I really really appreciate you coming and saying this. Though everyone does not agree with looking at it this way, and that's okay, I still think it's really good of you to share what you think. We don't get to hear it as often as what some others think.

I have to admit, that the boards have taken on a rather abrasive overtone recently. Whether it's from trolls, or other posters. I'm not by any means saying that people should sugarcoat what they have to say, and after being around for a while I have learned that if I don't want something to be publically scrutinized, not to post it. Everyone's opinion is just that, and some opinions are harder to listen to than others, especially if you don't agree, or if their opinion somehow makes you feel as if they are bringing into question your character or you as a person. I don't post as often as I used to anymore, for different reasons than are being discussed here, but I do read pretty much every thread, so I do know that there has been some nastiness being spread around. It's hard to read people insulting others no matter who it's coming from.

It's hard to keep that balance between being respectful and tolerant, and noticing a "troll" when they're around.

But Pete I really respect you and appreciate you coming here to do just that, reminding us to keep the balance.

Hi

I was really pleased Pete replied in this thread. If the forum is to be inclusive and open to everyone attacks from both sides (if percieved as attacks) are not good and newcomers reading the threads can be put off from posting. The last thing Pete needs is people being driven from the boards or too scared to post.

But, I hope Pete's reply also dispells the myth of the "cool kids". None of posters who are accused of just agreeing with Pete and the crew all the time have actually done as he asked and apologised. In other words, they all have the own opinion and that's how it should be.

It will be nice to get back to an opinion based board and not an attack based one :)

Opinions do not need to be based on fact, thats why there opinions.

It is my opinion that a lot of people who post on this board believe they can do no wrong. (All opinion and no fact)

While I do not agree with the poster on all comments I don't think they deserve the response they got.

Pete, you surprised me with your reply and I am glad that your open minded about peoples views of the podcast.

I agree with what you said. In a way, trying to "rid" the board of negativity has actually increased the negativity.

Pete's response was so impressive that I hope the OP comes back and reads it. The easy thing would have been for Pete to just allow the piling on and kick the OP out, but what Pete did was classy. I think if the OP was serious about his gripes Pete's response went a long way in answering them.

If you really believed the person was a troll.. the best thing to do is not post, ANY post no matter how witty or brilliant you think your comment is will give a troll what they want. "Don't feed the Troll" doesn't mean post "don't feed the troll" it means don't react because all a true troll is looking for is a reaction, ANY reaction. Imagine if a troll posts and it just rolls off the page without a single comment....
If you believed the person was giving honest feed back then it's best to reply to the points raised but not get drug down into insults etc.
I don't think this person was a true troll, I think they believed what they posted, they just chose to include some negative insulting coments with their main points. You see this commonly on the internet where people feel they have to pile on "points" to support their orignal point.
Had they JUST posted "I'm not listening to the podcast any more because xxxx" it would have been far more effective.

Maybe I was not clear. If your opinion has no basis in fact, you are either crazy or have some other agenda.

If I were to post "I don't like the podcast because Pete never says anything negative about Disney." Is that a valid opinion or just nonsense?

Was that not Kevin's and Pete's point? Give your opinions and discuss things but don't post things to just annoy others.

my second .02 cents.

As I have visited this board a few times over the last few weeks, I have noticed a palpable undercurrent of "if you don't like it, then you are a troll and go away". Now, maybe this is a rather new phenomenon on this board....I hope so. I am not sure what you are trying to imply by bolding "FREE". Are you trying to say that because the Podcast is free of charge that only positive opinions are welcome? I certainly hope not.

I said something similar on another thread. I wanted to point out that people might perceive all the responses as, "Wow. If I had anything critical to say, people might think I'm a troll." And people did respond to me by saying that as long as you keep it respectful, you won't be called a troll.

That's why I did not join in with the "don't let the door hit you on the way out" comments. Isn't that equally as disrespectful as the OP comments? I have to often stifle myself on the boards. I think everyone does at one point or another. And I think it's a good example of what "feeding the trolls" means. I think Alex's post nailed that point home.

Pete:

Your response is wonderful. I think you show a sensitivity to your listeners and board members that isn't often seen in this day and age. I have to admit that a part of me agrees somewhat with the OP about the recent negativity on the podcast. However, I am willing to overlook some of that for the time being, as I can accept ebbs and flows in the presentation of information and opinions. We are all entitled to our opinion and everyone doesn't have to agree with it. Keep telling it like it is! ::MinnieMo

Angelina Jolie is beautiful.
Angelina Jolie is ugly.
Those are 2 opinions with no factual basis. If a statement is a valid opinion or just nonsense is .......an opinion. You can't prove it either way. An opinion is a belief that may or may not be backed up with evidence, but which cannot be proved with that evidence. It is normally a subjective statement and may be the result of an emotion or an interpretation of facts; people may draw opposing opinions from the same facts.

I agree with the need for feedback and think the OP was fine up until a point. Why come here to say goodbye? If you really don't like the show anymore or the boards then just ride off into the sunset or send the team a message to let them know why you feel that way. Even if you want to share it in public, fine, but why point fingers and call out others on the boards if not to attempt to "stir the pot"? Honestly I think the OP made a few good points, but why step across the line and point fingers. Without extra nudge this thread might have taken a much better turn. Before anyone says "Well others called the OP this and that" that was after the fact. The OP made the statements not in retort but in the first post. I'm not agreeing with what others (on a few) have said, but that doesn't justify the OPs statements from the start.

:thumbsup2

this was clearly an attempt to gain attention, for whatever reason.

especially with that title. holy g- d- heart attack batman, i thought someone was announcing a suicide!!
