Good and bad theme songs

/
Best of all time.

Peter Gunn.

Blues Brothers cover

The Art of Noise Cover.

#2. Mission Impossible.

Worst.
Barney.

It's bad enough when you write the worst in the world, but when you borrow the tune of another song and proceed to carve it up, all the worse.

Jennifer Slept here. Just absolutely creepy. Mercifully, the show didn't last.

I always liked the Everwood theme for an instrumental, as well as the themes for the 1985 Anne of Green Gables and it’s spinoff Road to Avonlea.

For themes with words, I always find myself singing along to the original One Day at a Time theme song, as well as the Love Boat theme. I don’t think many shows have the type of big theme song these days like they used to. Big Bang Theory was one of the last ones I enjoyed.

It seems like a lot of shows now go for a hook, a two to three measure theme song, and right into the show. I assume it’s to maximize show time as the minutes taken by advertising continue to grow.

For worst, this one is just akkk to me, I'm watching the show but it's starting to be a chore and this just grates on me:

I feel as if many of the 80's cartoons have great theme songs.
Examples:
Robotech - Sweeping orchestral score. Let's you know from the jump that you're not watching an episodic series, but a serialized space drama.

Transformers - The lyrics tell you everything you need to know. I also suspect that the S1 intro had every single robot available as a toy in there.

Jem and the Holograms - Makes you aware you are in for something truly truly truly outrageous.

And this was from the 90's, but Mighty Morphin Power Rangers had a pretty kickass theme

(It also works great as a mashup)

As for bad ones, I'll say all the NCIS themes except New Orleans.

Best
Mary Tyler Moore Show
MASH
Hawaii Five-O
A good example of 2 songs that were played on the radio and high school pep rallies....a litmus test of a TV song that was constantly played on the radio

1981, the last song I heard in the van taking me to the airport for us army training....

Hill STreet Blues, the ryhtm of that song out the dreay rain windows of Oregon....forever imprinted in my memory.

well.....as popluar as little house was on cable and must see tv....I guess the theme song wasn't so good

which reminds me of western living
Bonanza ...that was on the 60s radio also
