Hi all. We're planning (once again  ), to go to Orlando Dec. 19-Jan 3. I found the Amtrak rate leaving Boston around noon, stopping in NY, and going to Orlando on the 19th for $843.50.

This is for 2 adults and 3 kids.

Is that a good rate? Should I wait for the rates to go down? Thanks :)

If you do decide to go by Amtrak remember we also service Amtrak in Orlando too. We are one of the transportation Sponsors.

I appreciate the offer. Do you provide vans because I have a feeling a towncar isn't going to be enough for us, even w/ the 8-yr-old who is pretty small

But I would like to know if $843.50 is a good Amtrak rate for 2 adults and 3 kids? Someone please let me know :Pinkbounc

Is this for a sleeping car? If so, it is a tremendous deal.. if not it's about average... there are discounts available through AAA & they run specials every so often... however I've been told that the farther out you book the cheaper...the closer it gets the price goes higher & believe it or not they do book up. I had to change my plans for my upcoming trip because when I booked (6 months out) my original date was full. Of course I'm going on the Autotrain so it is a bit more popular.

I think it does. Online, it says the train going from NYC to Orlando is reserved and it has bed symbols. Tell me if it does because if so, I'm gonna book ASAP :p

Yes it is probably for a sleeper but I have to warn you that a sleeper is not what you think... it is VERY small.. and it may not accomodate 5 people... You can view the dimensions of the sleeper rooms online at www.amtrak.com... however if I were you I'd call the reservation line for more info... They are very helpful in what is available etc... For our Autotrain trip we are just riding Coach... it is about a 16 hour or so trip over night.. For the 4 of us & the car it cost us about $850.

I'm gonna call Amtrak to be sure. We'll see if we can make some sort of arrangements.\\:D

Those Bed symbols on the internet site are there for you to click on if you want to add a sleeper to your reservation. If you do not add a sleeper your reservation will be reservered coach seats. The coach cars are where you sleep in your seat and there are about 40 seats and 2 restrooms per car. Go to the site and click on the symbols and you will see what I mean. If you don't click on the symbols, at the end when you go to click on rates it asks if you want to add sleeping accomodations to your reservation. If you don't click on the symbol or the part at the bottom, your reservation will be for Reserved Coach.

We took coach 5 years ago from Philadelphia, 2 adults, 1 child and I think our rate back then was around $500 or $600 for all of us. Meals were not included but you could get reservations for the dining car after you were onboard, which you paid for after your meal, or you could buy sandwiches and snacks in the snack shop.

We are taking the Autotrain out of Lorton, VA this year with a Deluxe sleeper car, 2 adults, 1 child and our rate is $1300. This was booked back in February and the rate has gone up since then. Before the talk about shutting them down it was actually higher than it is now, but I'm still lower than the current rate. Meals are included for all passengers on the Autotrain, but there are different dining cars for coach and 1st class(sleeper) passengers.

Hope this helps.
