Golf?

Anyone play golf at the course across from the poly? I am wondering how long it takes- we are trying to plan dinner around dh's golf - thanks

There are actually three courses that are together in that area, the Palm and Magnolia courses, which are 18 holes, and Oak Trails, a 9-hole executive course (walking only and usually heavily occupied by beginners and kids). How long it takes to play the Palm or Magnoilia depends on time of day and just who shows up for the day. If you can get an early tee time (e.g., about 7, and you can call in well in advance of your trip to get a time) you can easily get done in less than four hours. By a 9 a.m. start time or after you are often looking at a 4 1/2 hour and sometimes longer round because all the slow players (who uniformily believe they are actually fast) show up.

Thanks- so if we wanted to do a six pm dinner- you think i should book a 1pm tee time? Or even earlier?

I would suggest booking a tee time for no later than 11:30. This allows a possible 5 hour round (ending at 4:30). This gives your husband 1.5 hours to get back to the room, shower, change, and get to dinner.

I agree with the ap's, I played Magnolia a couple weeks ago and it was 4.5 hours, and this after "tropical storm barry" went through. I put quotes cause it was the lamest excuse for a tropical storm! Probably better to play after 10am anyway because the price slice rate goes into effect!

Many factors are going to affect the timing including where you are staying, where you are having dinner and how you are getting there. If you are staying at the Poly and dinner is at the Poly, then timing can be cut a little closer. If you are staying at Boardwalk and taking Disney transport to dinner at the Poly, then, an hour and a half might not be enough time.

In general, I would agree that the plan should be for a 4.5 hour round, however, we have left the course on a couple of occasions to make dinner resrvations when we were tracking for a 5+ hour round. It can happen.

As to the comment in post #5 about pricing going down after 10AM, that is true up until September 30. October brings a new season for the golf courses and the pricing does not go down until twilight rates take affect sometime around 2 or 3PM. The Vacation Club Golf Membership does give a substantial break after 10AM and there may be other memberships that also give breaks but it is pretty much full price from 7AM until the twilight rates kick in during the October-Dec season.

1) Lots of Male Hackers and Women: 4-1/2 to 5-1/2 hours
2) Lot of "Good" golfers studying their shots: 5-1/2 to 6-1/2 hours.
3) And, you never know what you get until you tee off.

So for all you golfers out there- given that it takes so long- Is playing once in a week long trip enough or would you play twice? Maybe do 18 holes once and 9 the other? Thanks for all the great info!

Since DW and I both play we usually make it 3 times in a week. We also visit at least once a year and sometimes twice so we don't do a lot of park commando activities (we do still visit the parks but not in a frenzy). Unless the 9 hole round is on Oak Trail, 18 or 9 will cost the same. At least I've never seen an advertised 9 hole rate for any course other than Oak Trail.

And to the poster who said women cause long rounds, I have to take exception. DW is a 35 handicaper but she always works hard to stay "in touch" with the group in front of us.
