Golf lessons at HHI

Hello, I'm KarenB DH. Can anyone suggest someplace at HHI to take golf lessons for someone who knows the game but wants to take it to the next level? Thanks in advance.

I can't help on HH, but I'm sure there are any number of good coaches at the vast number of great courses around the island.

If you've not looked at this offering (see link) in Orlando before I can happily recommend this service http://www.progolfguides.com/ It's a great way to get a really useful workout for your game. The difficulty, IMHO, with a one off ( or even a weeks) lesson(s) is that it takes a while for any alterations in your swing. It really needs to be a longterm approach. The beauty of Phil's (pro golf guides) aproach is that your on the course with the pro playing a round. He is unlikely to try to rework your swing, but will give you some tips and drills to work on that aspect, but IMHO the best lessons to learn are to watch how a pro works out the best way to play a hole, where the percentages are. The "brains" part of playing golf. This is a lesson you can learn in just one round watching and listening to the pro as you go round. I think it's also valuable because in many places the lessons are given on the driving range, while range time is good in the sense it's time efficient, few of us hit the ball in the range the same as we do when on the course. The pro (if it's only one lesson) can see how you actually PLAY golf, not how you practice it .

It would be worth giving Phil a call to see if he knows anyone in HH offering a similar service. Oh, in addition to the lesson he offers, Phil will collect you from your hotel (and return you), provide a set of clubs , play a round with you and if time/weather permits go through a few drills and routines on the range. He can accomodate up to three "players" at a time and the costs obviously go down (per individual) the more of you there are. He'll split his time between the group giving each member a equal split of "one on one" time while also offering tips and ideas that are valid to all the group when applicable. I've had a few lessons in different places and this was by far the most helpful and instructive way to learn. It isn't cheap, but IMHO good value for the quality of service you receive.

There is a good pro at The Golden Bear at Indigo Run who not only gives private lessons, but also teaches workshops during the week at very reasonable rates. I took the "Driving" workshop and found it to be very helpful in my game. Prices vary, but the workshops are a good start then you can work up to private lessons. Even in the workshop you get about 15 minutes of individual attention. I think I only paid $15 for it.

KarenB, I have here in front of me "The Golfer's Guide to Hilton Head Island". It advertises various clinics and half-day programs at Port Royal and Shipyard. There's also The Island Golf School, John McMahon's Golf School, Golf Academy at Sea Pines-I'm sure I missed some. There's a website on the front of this booklet-www.golfersguide.com
