If you don't have time for a "full round" I can recommend Aqualia ( I think that's the spelling) that Disney have on their info sheets. It's a short drive from DVC and despite the fact it's a par 62 quite challenging and a pretty good quality course, I think thet describe it as an "executive" course. With a high number of par 3s it does mean you can get round pretty quickly so if you are tight on time for a round it might fill a need.

We stayed at Disney's Vero Beach Resort the end of April-first of May, 2001. My husband played Sandridge Golf Club (for tee times call 770-5000). he was very pleased with it and it was very affordable. Twice, we drove down to Port St. Lucie to play the PGA Village courses. They are nice, although it was about 1-2 hour drive each way. The following public courses were listed in the VB phone book: Sebastian Municipal (18 holes) 589-6800, Sandridge (36 holes, see above), Whisper Lakes (18) 567-3321, Dodger Pines (18) 569-4400, Dodgertown (18) 569-4800, Vista Plantation (18) 569-2223, Vista Royale (27) 562-8110, Indian Pines (18) 464-7018. I think area code is 561.

The DVC Guidebook shows several courses available for play: Indian River Club (this looked nice), Aquarina Country Club, and The Links at Pointe West. It says to contact the resort guest services desk for info and availability. My guidebook is a couple of years old, so you might want to check on the DVC website to updated version.

There are a lot of very fine courses in the Vero Beach area. Both of the Sandridge course are excellent, cheap and a short drive. The 3 courses at the PGA in Port St. Lucie are fantastic, reasonably priced and designed by 2 of golf's best: Tom Fazio and Pete Dye. They are less than an hour from the resort, in fact they are about 25-30 miles south of the Highway 60 exit on I-95. The Indian River Club is a beautiful course but the folks are a bit snobby there. Enjoy!!!!!!!!!!

I highly recommend the Indian River Club. I played there two years ago during my stay and was very impressed. The conditions were excellent and the members were very friendly. I considered the course to be extremely challenging (I'm an 18 handicap, so take my interpretation of difficulty for what its worth). I'm not sure what year, but this course was mentioned by Golf Digest as one of the top ten new private courses in the country.

Hit em long and straight!

I can also recommend Aquarina, a 15-20 minute ride North from the resort right on A1A. It is an executive course, but still challenging, well maintained. As someone above said the par is about 62 and rates are reasonable. The front desk CM's at Vero will be happy to set up tee times for you.
