Golf Carts

Love those paint jobs!:cool1:

We called our local golf cart store and it will cost $500 to have it painted. I did a bit of research on the net about doing it ourselves but it seems difficult. I didn't realize we would have to sand it -- then there was controversy about the type of paint, etc.

Anyone do it yourself? Any tips? If someone else painted it for you how much did you pay?

Thanks!

My 1st cart I painted using Ford Metalic Silver, with hardner. Went very well, but when I upgraded carts I chose to let them paint it because of the time factor. I literally took the whole cart down and repainted it.

I do all my work in-house all custom work done by me and my partner. As for painting it is a lot of work, you have to sand the body, prime it then wetsand the primer. Then you clean well and shoot your base coat, after that you clear then you have to color sand the clear to get out the orange peel. Wet sand clear with 1500 grit to a dull finish then wet sand with 2000 grit to remove scratches from the 1500 grit sand paper. After that you buff with 3000 paste then buff with swirl remover, your paint will be shinning. Lots of work I do all custom golf cart work from stock carts to HP fast custom carts.
I use house of kolor paint and Matrix paint these are automotive paints and they work great!!!

unless you are going crazy for some off the wall paint, you are bettr off just buying a new body for $400

Gatordad,

We get the burnt orange and navy blue cart back tomorrow. I will post pics! My DH says you are a bad influence because I liked yours so much, I went and got our '85 EZGo painted. (He is just kidding.):rotfl:

It's ok. at least I didn't encourage you to do anything worse.....

You might be able to get the rear for $400 but I'm sure your not going to get a NEW front and rear painted body for $400!

You are right. My body isn't painted, it's Gator blue plastic, and the color goes right down to the core. If you get a painted one and there's a chip, you'd see the white or whatever color underneath. Actually, I think we also paid $450 for a brand new body, not $400

Your right about that a factory body has the color through and through.

That is very true...

We are going to put the Disney and Auburn stickers on it in the next couple of days. We are finishing Musket Mickey on Corel Draw so we can cut the vinyl. We have one for the RV and one for the cart. It is VERY orange right now, but will be broken up by the stickers. I will post the before pics now...

PS- Please excuse our horribly brown grass. We are following the water restrictions, unlike my neighbors!:sad2:

looks good. If you want, I can send you some decals from UF. They'd enhance the colors

I love those old ez-go's your cart looks great!!!!!!!!

Thanks! She is a trooper! I got her off ebay for around 500 because she was pink and hideous looking. I will post the pics when we get her done in disney and auburn!

OK, here we go...

Sorry for the big pictures, but I wanted you to see in some detail. The first picture is the front of our RV, which we finished this evening. Mickey's background has a slight blue tint because he is done to match the color scheme of the RV. The picture doesn't do him justice because the RV is parked up next to the house right now. The second picture is of the side of the cart and the third is a close up of the musket mickey we did for the golf cart. It is all made of layered vinyl, like the stripes on a sports car. It was a long, laborious project, but I think it is well worth it! Hope to see fellow DIS'ers from June 16-24. My DH says that you can click on the pictures to see them bigger if you would like. I took the pictures off his picasa site.

the cart looks awesome, if even without those great Gator Logos.

Some pics of my cart after a late night baja fest on the horse trail!!!! It was very wet and muddy, but fun.
