Golf Cart Problems

I hear they are changing the reservation system, and you won't be able to book in off peak and pay the low rates into peak. Some people may not like it, but I will think that it will open up more spots.

Careful, Rhonda is lurking in the wings waiting to shut down threads that go off track.

I was just cancelling out the posts on the reservation board. No harm.

Think about the disney cash cow.........private carts = zero cash

They make plenty on the rental carts, you rarely can get one without a reservation especially on a weekend.

I agree 100%.......thats why I feel the private carts will go......for FW its a no brainer......

Disney will close this loophole similar to the reservation system....it just makes good business sense.......

Will some cart owners be disapointed yes...maybe even choose tropical palms.... but wait I don't think they allow private carts either....:car:

I love to bring my cart when people see my carts they usually stop ask questions and you make new friends. If and I say if (which I hope they dont) they stop private carts I will stop going for the reason I dont break the rules I dont let my kids drive the cart so I dont think everyone should be penalized for other peoples dumb actions.

I'm surprised to hear that...we are seasonal in a resort owned by the same company that owns Tropical Palms, and they allow private carts in our campground. Maybe that's just for us seasonals..not the nightly campers..I'll have to check into that.

I think, although I could be wrong, that he was saying that they make enough on the rental carts that they don't care that they aren't making any on the private carts ;)

I still have yet to see a really good reason why Disney should get rid of the private carts. Disney doesn't care about the money since the fact that people bring private carts probably alleviates some of the strain on their golf cart fleet, and they don't have to have a thousand carts laying around for all the campers.

Disney can enforce the cart rules just as easily on private golf cart owners as they can on public golf cart owners, so that can't be it either. As far as I can see, there is nothing but positives about allowing people to bring their own carts.

I thought disney was all about the $$$$$

not allowing private carts will have no adverse effect on the fort...more + then -

uhmm, ok???? :confused3:

P.S. Private carts do not equal zero cash, it only does if you look at it strictly from a rental standpoint. They make money in other ways by allowing people to bring private carts (see my above post about alleviating strain on their golf cart fleet by allowing private golf carts).

OK, we don't rent carts, nor do we own one. It is just in our budget. I have seen kids driving them. What I have found though is that the private carts are the ones that seem to be obeying the rules. I have never seen a private cart driving crazy or being driven by a kid. Now it could be that there are just fewer of them, not sure.

My theory is that the ones that are privately owned, take better care of their property. If they let a kid drive and they wreck it, they are out. They have to pay insurance as well. They probably use them more often, so are better at it. They don't want to destroy their investment. They also have the insurance to pay if someone is injured, but it will up their premium, so they have incentive to drive safely.

Those on the rentals have nothing to lose. If they wreck it, it is disney who is out the money. They have nothing to lose letting the kids drive it either. I like the idea of taking it away and still charge them for it if the kids are caught driving. I am sure they will have someone waiting to rent it and then they will be getting paid by two for the same cart.

We also had a couple families in our loop that were from out of the country did not speak English. They were the worst offenders I have seen. They had little kids like around 8 driving them back and forth to the CS. They drove fast and had trouble stopping. I did not let my littles go to the CS by themselves that trip!!!

So, keep the private carts allowed and enforce the rules. Hit the renters in the pocket book, maybe even issue tickets with fines. Better yet, take the cart away. A few bus trips will make the parents reconsider their decisions.

1) Correct me if I'm wrong, but I do believe that you are liable for damage to the golf cart, it is in the rental agreement.

2) I have seen private carts driven just as crazy as other carts. As you mentioned, there are less of them, so you don't see as many of them.

3) The day I see a golf cart getting pulled over by a "cop" cart and issued a fine will be a funny day in my Fort Wilderness history (just the visual amuses me, sorry....lol)

There is a statement of liability that has to be signed when renting, but like most legal documents and especially ones given to guests at Disney, it goes unread, along with the statement, which also is signed, covering the rules of operation.

One year, when my oldest was 16 with a license we were driving around the 1600 loop. We were being followed by a Disney security guy. He followed us for around 15 minutes. When we parked he walked over to my son and asked to see his license. He then gave him a hard time: is this really you...name..address..etc. Finally I chimed in and he left. He followed my son around for the remainder of the day. Now, my son was NOT driving badly..I was there watching..but he just wouldn't leave him be. We called the guy "Deputy DoeDoe" and still do. So there are some security guys who take their job a wee bit seriously! I still feel I should have reported the moron!

I'm glad security checked his license but following him around for the rest of the day? That should have been reported. As a mom, I would have concerns of him being a pedophile or worse.

Correct, except unlike the rules of operation, this one actually has some consequences...lol ;)

he was just so weird. He was an older man that really reminded us of Barney Fife on the Andy Griffith Show. It was like he didn't beleive us..like he never saw a NY license before. I mean it had a picture and everything on it. He annoyed more than worried me. I was with my son most of the day and my son was pretty big for his age then..so I wasn't worried about him "bothering" my son. I think I could have "taken" the guy!!
