Golf cart path from campgroung to Wilderness Lodge

I've been using that path for the last couple of Decembers at Ft. Wilderness and the "posts" have been there at least that long.

I have, on a few occasions, seen golf carts actually on the path (maybe 2 or three out of a LOT of walking on the path).

In fact, one evening I almost twisted my ankle getting off the path to let one through (it was getting dark and I didn't see where the step off the path was).

There is a way to get one on the path, but it is not a "guest" way.

Past the Group Camping area there is a CM-only road that continues on to the Settlement Area of the Campground. (The purple bus uses this road).

This road crosses the path we speak of. There are no barriers.

You may have seen Cast Member golf carts or guests from Loop 2000 taking a quick unofficial scoot down that road to get over to the path.

I suppose you can justify it any way you want - going on castmember only routes, past signs saying no carts, etc. The official rule is no carts on the path, and it is spelled out in the literarture you will get at check in now. I guess if you choose to go on the path and your cart breaks down or gets stuck somewhere and the bike barn folks confiscate it, you can always say that Samantha Brown said it was okay.;)

I didn't say I have done it, (never have had a golf cart at the Fort), I'm just saying if there are carts there, that's how they got there.

It hasn't been allowed for years. Personally, there never was a problem with both golf carts AND pedestrians on that path, at least the hundred times I drove it or walked it. I think the main reason they stopped it is because you are kind of isolated back there, and they probably didn't want golf carts going off into the woods, breaking down, trying to leave the Fort entirely.

Most people drive the carts responsibly, don't let the few bad one's ruin it for you :(

There are already plenty of places off limits to golf carts, so no worries there :)

Once you have bikes, walkers/joggers, surrey bikes, it can already be pretty busy.

The golf cart guy who passed me was very nice - it was funny, because I was walking later than normal, and I was fine until he came along. I stepped off the pavement, tripped, twisted my ankle slightly (not enough to really get hurt) and he stopped and asked if I was okay (not that he saw me hurt myself, he was just wondering why I was out there at night I guess!)

Colson39, you seem to be an authority on FW. Is it necessary to rent a golf cart at the campground or is it just fun to do? Can children drive them with an adult in the cart? How far in advacne should we reserve one?

Whoop, ::cop: Whoop, ::cop: Whoop...I hear the Golf Cart Police a commin'....Step on it!:moped:

Colson's an expert??? hmmmm..... ;)

It's not necessary, but it's fun and makes things much more convenient! But, we have camped at FW for 20 years and just started renting them recently. So, you really don't need one.

No, you have to be 16 and have a valid driver license to drive them, even if there's an adult in the cart.

Call as early as possible to book, because they go quickly!!

I say expert because I see that name everywhere and they seem to have a lot of information. Thanks for the advice. We are going in June. I have not been in 15 years. I can't wait!!! I am hoping that we like it so much that it becomes a regular camping spot for us. There seems to be enough to do that we will not even go to the parks. According to my four year old ( who will be five while we are there) WDW is all about the big, big pool and playground.

lol, far from an expert, like most of the people on this forum I love the Fort and I also like to help people. My wife says I'm addicted to research, and if I see something on here I don't know, I'll go look it up, and I'll do the same if people are looking for information. I'm obsessed with knowledge ;) I spent a lot of time on ANOTHER forum over the last few years, and it wasn't till I decided to become active on the DIS that I realized how great this community is. And how much better than that OTHER forum it is!

Plus I talk a lot on here, I don't mind writing 5 paragraphs about what is the best tetherball court at the Fort :P

Rhonda pretty much answered everything, she's been beating me to the punch a few times lately!!! lol.

Other forum? There's other forums?? :confused3 :confused3

(NO NEED TO REPLY TO THIS, PLEASE!!!) ;)
