We are heading to HH for the last week of August. Hubby loves to golf, but wasn't planning to as the other members of the trip include myself, our two young daughters and my MIL - all non golfers. Now, my teenage golf-loving nephew may be joining us.

I know it will be hot - but if they dress accordingly, stay hydrated, etc., are there deals to be had this time of year? They would ideally like to golf maybe 3 times during the week. How expensive are the courses and are there any not to be missed?

The most famous course on HH is Harbour Town on Sea Pines http://www.seapines.com/sportsmanship/index.asp It is home to one of the top pro TV competitions of the year the MCI heritage. It's almost unheard of them discounting this course as it is so well known but they do often do packages for the three Seapines courses (one round at each course and they are all excellent) that in effect mean you get a free round on the third course. We worked it so we played Harbour Town last 1) to get some practice in first and 2) to save the best till last. It's worth checking with Sea Pines to see if they are doing any such deals, particularly if they would only want 3 games it might suit perfectly. IMHO if you're a keen golfer Harbour Town is a course you just HAVE to play once.

There are literally dozens of fantastic courses on or a short drive from HH, IMHO the best way to get a decent deal on one of them is to go to the local golf outlets and pick up one of their free hand out magazines that has coupons, advertisments, directions and phone numbers to most of the clubs.

I thought the offers available through Disney were a little limited, JMHO.

Jenn,
We were in HH last May and DD and his buddies golfed Harbour Town and thought it was awesome! However, he failed to let me know (one of the guys let it slip) that it cost $250!! I was not happy at first, but I guess it was his vacation too!! They thought they were so cool golfing where the pros golf!! It was kind of neat for him though. Needless to say, they only golfed once! I bet your DH would love it. Have a great time in HH, we loved it!!

How old is your nephew? DS16 was able to get some good deals if he waited until the afternoon to begin. You have to call all the courses to find out if they have those specials, and there is not a "standard" discount, but it was a good savings! (This was particularly helpful when DH had to return to Atlanta to work for a few days during the middle of our vacation!)

The bad part about golfing later in the day like that is that it is hot !!! The best time of day to golf in Hilton Head during the summer is bright and early in the morning.

Aside from Harbour Town, some of their favorite courses are Indigo Run, any of the 3 Palmetto Dunes courses (with Robert Trent Jones being their first choice there), Shipyard Plantation, and Port Royal (a couple of choices at each of the last two locations). Basically, they've had pretty good luck with the courses ON Hilton Head Island, but have been less-than-thrilled with some of the courses off the island.

Hope this helps. Enjoy your stay!!
