Golden globes question-ricky gervais

I just saw this and groaned. Granted, he may be okay as an actor (I was not one of the twenty people who saw The Invention of Lying and I've never seen the British version of The Office.)

As a person, he leaves a lot to be desired as far as I'm concerned, but I'll reserve judgment on the acting portion until I actually watch it.

What I haven't been able to figure out from the other night was whether or not Stever Carrell's reaction to him was genuine, joking, or scripted.

The Invention of Lying was terrific. The original British "The Office" was hilarious, as was his show "Extras" and his podcast. In many MANY ways, the British Office outshines the American version (which I also love).

I Loved Invention of Lying and have the DVD. While I love the American Office I'm not a big fan of the british version.

I agree w/ pp, I hope he hosts more award shows. I will definately watch if he hosts them.

No offense, but I hope for my sake that you have no reason to watch awards shows in the future!

I hate it when something I like and enjoy gets ruined. I have the dates for these shows written in my day planner months in advance and I really look forward to them. It's such a disappointment when the atmosphere turns so trashy.

Don't worry. I usually don't watch awards shows. I'll sometimes watch the mtv ones - movie and music awards. I get bored with the more mainstream awards shows - too many dance numbers and tributes. Are the Golden Globes like that, or more fast paced?

The Globes don't have dance numbers or performances or anything like that. It's pretty much usually just the host telling jokes and people giving speeches.

I think this year's show actually ended about two minutes early... which doesn't help the speculation that Gervais actually was benched, for lack of a better word.

I think if he was 'benched' the foreign press would've come right out and said it especially if the FP has no intention of inviting him back next year as some people are speculating. I don't think they intend of punishing him at all. I think they actually like the idea of all this controversy.

That honestly doesn't matter to me either way... I just think the fact that it ended early is weird.

As long as he doesn't come back and next year they have someone who's funny but not mean, I'm happy.

Does anyone remember last years golden globes? Gervais was the same way with his jokes he even joked about how the GG wouldn't have him back.
I think he is funny, he jokes about what we all secretly are thinking!!

I think calling a two minute difference in the ending time "weird" is a bit of a stretch. It sounds like nothing more than a timing issue. When you have acceptance speeches, even with the "get-off-the-stage" music blaring, you can't control how long or short those folks ramble for. A two minute early ending for something like that is negligible in the business.

I remember looking at my clock and thinking, "they ended right on time for a change". Normally these awards shows are so bloated that they eat into the show that comes right after.

1. Yes, he was the same as last year and I hated it then too.
2. We aren't all secretly thinking most of that crap.

Your two comments kind of contradict each other and that's what I'm getting at when I say that the fact that it ended early makes me raise my eyebrow a bit. Simply ending two minutes early isn't weird in and of itself. Ending two minutes early when it usually goes half an hour over is a bit strange.

I'm not complaining. That's half an hour that I didn't have to hear his trashy mouth.

But when you combine the earlier-than-normal ending with the looooong disappearance, I don't think it's out of the question that some of us are wondering what happened.

Hollywood Celebrities: Overly sensitive, spoiled, pre-madonnnas who take themselves way too seriously and think the world is going to end when they get roasted.

I thought Ricky was hilarious, some of the more funny material I've heard in a long time compared to a lot of the lame stuff we hear year after year. I thought he did fantastic.

I LOVED it!! It is about time someone puts all those actors in their place ....why should they not be called out for all their bad choices? I really liked when he went after angelina jolie....this women is a homewrecker yet everyone is dogging leanne rimes for the same thing. She went on tv and talked about how she would NEVER sleep with a married man...WHEN SHE WAS PREGNANT! PLEASE I thought it was great....I feel bad for johnny depp for making the mistake of doing a movie with her, most of what she does bombs.

He made fun of her movie. How does that translate into putting her "in her place" for being a homewrecker?

I think it's interesting that you feel bad for Johnny's mistake but think that everyone else's is fair game.

Of course, EVERYONE knows that people in Hollywood are the only ones who sometimes make bad choices. It's awfully hard to grow as a person if you're already perfect.

I still think he's a blowhard.
