Got a call this morning that I might have purchased a bag of Gold Medal Flour that has been recalled due to a possible salmonella contamination.

I've already used half of the only bag we have in captivity, and if it was going to poison me, I think I'd know by now.

Whenever I open a new bag, the flour goes into an airtight container and the bag gets thrown out. Without the bag listing the expiration date, have no idea if it's part of the recall.

It didn't help that the call came before 8 a.m. and woke me up. (Hey, I'm old, retired, and earned the right to sleep later than mere mortals who would already be on their way to work.) The call went to voice mail and when I got around to checking the message (accompanied by annoying music) it gave me instructions, but without the bag, what's the point?

If said flour were part of the recall I'd need the bag to return to the store for a refund.

I realize Gold Medal has to do everything they can, but....

Have you received a similar call about a recall?

My wife has gotten an e-mail about a recalled product we bought. We are in our grocery store rewards program so they clearly track what you purchase. No call, they don't have our phone number.

Our rewards program is set up to use our phone # in case we don't have our card with us. And yes, they're good at tracking what we purchase. Big Brother (at the big grocer) is watching us.

Our rewards program has you select a PIN to use if you forget your card. I guess a phone number would be easier but I don't want them having that. My wife picked a number she thought would be easy to remember.....LOL.....which is why I have it written down and in my wallet. Her logic was illogical (with apologizes to Mr. Spock).

If you bought the flour at a store with a "rewards" type card (like the grocery store card that gives discounts), that may have been the call you received. I've gotten calls like that.

However, the news reported last night that if the flour is baked into something it should be safe to eat. Most of us don't eat raw flour, so most likely you are fine. If you don't like the risk, toss the flour you have on hand and buy new. I don't think you can return it without the packaging showing it's part of the recall.

Timely post JDB! Dad bought a bag of Gold Medal Flour at Ralph's yesterday. The receipt does show the recall alert. The flour he bought has a September expiration date. The recalled flour looks to have possibly ended in March. He did try twice to call Gold Medal, each time being told the wait to talk to a representative would be over half an hour, so he chose not to do so. Ralphs, always provides excellent customer service both in store and online. With this, all they could tell us was what we already knew and to call General Mills. Should you or anyone else on here talk with someone, I would appreciate so much an update. Otherwise, we will try again to call early tomorrow morning.

via emails, but never a phone call.

Kind of weird, about the phone call? LIke who tracked that purchase...

I've had stuff recalled like that before, and was unsure if it was included (tossed it to be safe). So what I do now is take either a sticky note and write the production number and date exp, date opened, etc on it, and tape it to the container, or I take a piece of the box with that info on it, and stick it in the container (like for the pancake mix; it comes in a plastic bag in the box, so I just take the bag out of the box, take the important part of the box....instructions and the other info) and stick that in the container with the bag of stuff.

If you've used half of your bag, it's probably safe. There are only two use by dates in the recall and it is only the all purpose 2, 5, and 10 pound bags dated March 27, or March 28, 2024 that are part of the recall. Note they only found salmonella in one 5 pound bag.

I got an email from my grocery store. They have it from my use of the app.

I had the flour split into 2 containers. I dumped it all, washed out the containers and purchased a new bag of King Arthur brand flour.

I never care about getting my money back from recalled food items. The $8 I paid for the new bag of flour is worth it to avoid salmonella poisoning. I've had that before and I'd pay a LOT more than $8 to never experienced that again.

General Mills official website shows the expiration dates included in the recall. Other products with different expiration dates are not affected. Sounds like they narrowed it down to a processing issue on a specific set of dates. I would imagine they mix up large batches and then portion it out into the various size packages.

Cooking/heating that normally takes place when you bake something made of flour would make it safe to eat. However, utensils that come in contact with other non-cooked items could be an issue according to the website. If you have any of the recalled dates, I would toss in the trash and wash your flour canister before replacing with new.

Thank you all for the updates. 🙏 none of you were ill affected! Great Sticky note idea, thank you, B&B, good to see you, too:hug:

Tasty and Safe Baking to all. Have a good and cozy evening with sweet dreams, everyone:grouphug:

I did not get a call, but saw it on the news. I will double check on the website but I'm pretty sure mine is a difference date than March.

No calls. We use our reward card at the store. I did hear about it. We buy it all the time.

My dad spoke with April at General Mills this morning who assured him that our flour with a September best buy date is fine. She also did confirm the recall only applies to flour that was purchased with listed on their website and on store receipts recall dates.
