We love the DDP and are using it for our August trip (before free dining). That said, we, too, got a great room only rate for Christmas, and we cannot get the DDP with it. I figure that the nearly $300 a night I'm saving at the Grand Floridian over Christmas is worth not having the DDP. I'm going to get the TIW card and see how that goes.
To the OP, if you got the type of deal I'm referring to, then I think the no DDP is well worth it. I figure that even if we eat lots of food, we are still coming out way ahead with this room rate, and it's well worth it for me to just pay for dinner. Also, sometimes the snacks drive me nuts because I feel like we have to use them all whether we want them or not.
So for me, the "fun" will be in saving big bucks off the room. And then we can get dessert because I'm saving all that money on the room....
