Going "watch-less"?

I've never had my camera or iPhone break on an attraction, could you elaborate on how yours got broken?

Dummy me rode the roller coaster thats in DCA (Anaheim, CA - March 2010) during an ABD's 'Backstage Magic" tour.
.....wore a pair of shorts that had 2 deep pockets on each leg and I had the old School digital camera (size of your fist) in the lower left leg pcoket.....
(and NO, I do not believe in putting anything in those "pockets" right in front of you cuz you wight forget to get what u put in there and or it might fall out or get damaged, etc)


Afterwards, saw the Camera view finder (the part where you look thru) cracked.....
then afterwards , I saw I couldnt take any more pics because of the damage......
but I was able to take videos for a while...............

\then that too stopped.


So, IMO, I have learned the hard way not to take something like a video camera, digital camera, Ipod, Iphone, etc on some sort of an attraction ride that is heavy on movements and or sudden movements...

EX - There is NO WAY I would being anything of personal value on Rockin' Roller Coaster at HS; much less a camera or any kind nor a Iphone nor Ipad, etc.



SO you can see also why I like taking tours when on vacation so I CAN being something like this with me and ask the Tour Guide (who doesnt ride on the attraction) to hold it for me (yes, I tip them for this) ....rather than rent a locker; fyi.

EX - There is NO WAY I would being anything of personal value on Rockin' Roller Coaster at HS; much less a camera or any kind nor a Iphone nor Ipad, etc.

I have taken my DSLR, plus multiple lenses, in a backpack on all of the "action" rides at WDW and never had an issue. I am pretty sure that on my last trip, I had my iPad in my messenger bag on my last day and rode without issues. The key is to make sure there is a barrier of some sort, such as a padded bag or case.

As for my iPhone, it has been on many rides of coasters at KI in my pocket or wristlet without an issue. The key to having anything of value on an attraction is to have it in a secure location. I once lost eyeglasses on a coaster in Myrtle Beach because my purse, with only a snap, opened during the attraction. So, now, my bags have a decent closer and my pockets have a closer, or safety pin strategically placed, to help keep things in place.

OP: I only wear a watch when I am made to due to a volunteer job where I would not have easy access to my phone. I doubt I could wear a MB for longer than four hours without having tear it off my wrist, but if you are used to wearing one, you will probably be uncomfortable not wearing one unless you start taking it off for periods of time now.

At work, I don't wear one, even put it up but while on vacation, I would rather wear one cuz I can easily replace a $30 watch vs a $400 Iphone, etc........

On my last trip, I wore a watch, but since then I've started wearing a FitBit. Between a FitBit and a Magic Band, my wrists are spoken for, so in the future I probably won't wear a watch. It would be SO great if there was a way to have all three functions in one band! As long as you have a phone, or are traveling with someone who does, I don't think it would be a big deal to ditch your watch.

I wear my watch 24/7 along with my tennis bracelet on my left wrist. I would feel naked without it. I am asked quite often for the time at WDW by people but especially at the pool/waterparks.

There are always people around to ask if you dont want to wear one, I know I dont mind and I am sure others wont as well.

I never wear a watch anymore. I probably have 5 watches in my jewelry box and every single one needs a battery right now, lol! I just haven't gotten around to getting them taken care of because I don't wear them anymore. None of my party wear a watch in the parks.

I have my phone in my pocket at all times (or in my hand), it isn't hard to check the time and I really don't need to check the time every 5 minutes. Once every 30 minutes will keep us on time for any FP or ADRs. Besides I am taking a photo or checking the Lines app at least that often while we are there. I don't even wear a watch at work anymore.

Well, I'd never have a camera in my pocket, without the lens cover on it. But I don't wear cargo pants, and keep everything in a bag that fits in the netting on the attractions. I've never forgotten my bag, and I've never had anything in it broken.

I don't "wear" a watch but, because I don't want to keep getting my phone out to check the time, I put the watch around my cinch sack bag or a belt loop. That way it's accessible without having to wear it, the MB...

I rock my MB on my right wrist, I can't do both on the left. But tbf some of my watches are 42mm+.

I like my watch with the indiglo light button. I can check the time, even if I'm in a dark theatre, without being annoying to other guests.

I have an old pocket watch that I would clip a caribiner too and attach it to the loop on my shorts instead of wearing a watch on my wrist at Disney.

For my last trip, I left the pocket watch at home and just used the time on my new fitbit or my phone. I kind of missed that old pocket watch.

Sure you can go without a watch if you have another way to tell the time.

My watch is the very first thing I leave home when we go on vacation anywhere, as to me, it is something that reminds me of work and normal everyday routine. So especially at Disney, no chance I will wear a watch. There are clocks and ways to find out the time without one, and worse case scenario this year, either DH or I will have a smart phone on us. When we went to WDW in 2014, I put on my magic band on the wrist where I usually have my watch, and I loved it when someone in our group asked what time it was, I would always look at that wrist out of habit, and answer "It's Blue Mickey o'clock". I can't wait, this year it'll be Purple Mickey o'clock all day long

I can't remember the last time I wore a watch. Like you said, there's clocks all around and you'll have your phone which I don't think is a burden to check when you need to know the time right then. You could also set alarms on your phone if you don't want to look but don't want to be late.

That's exactly what I do. Either that or I'll put it on my calendar with a reminder. Very simple and easy to do. The problem I have is when I don't hear the alarm or reminder! LOL I downloaded the sound of a foghorn so I think I'll use that for our upcoming trip. No way I'll not hear that! lol

I haven't worn a watch in years. Sometimes I wish I had one but it's no problem to just check my phone.

I don't wear my watch to the parks as I don't feel like dealing with insurance if I ever broke or lost it, but I will wear it out to dinner and drinks.

On my last trip we ended up doing the "no-watch" experiment entirely on accident – and I personally wouldn't do it again. It's one thing to constantly be glancing at a watch, and another to keep pulling your phone out of your back pocket to check times. Yes, there are a fair amount of clocks at the parks, but for some reason our first instinct was not to check them, but to look at our phones (I don't know why). Maybe it will be different for you all though!
