Going too much?

Hijacking from a different thread. I was reading a trip report and she said that they started to loose the lustre from going a lot to DLP but Christmas with the decorations made it different again.

Can you go too much? Does it loose the magic? How much is too much?

We have AP's, just purchased a few months ago and plan to go back in late January. I don't know the parks very well yet and it is magical but I don't want to over do it.

For me it looks like it's never enough :)
This year I went to WDW in January, to DLP in May, to Disneyland in California in June and I'm leaving next Thursday for DLP again :D

Oh, and I bought DVC points in January and already looking to add more points.

Will I ever be tired of it? I don't foresee it. And now I'm moving to London, where I'll be able to take a direct flight to Orlando and a 2 hour train to DLP. I'll probably visit Disney even more often in the future :cool1:

I really think it depends on the person. For me, once every other year is ideal, but my DH would love twice a year if we could afford it. And I get tired at DLR in a week, but it takes two at WDW. I think DH could stay a month and not be ready to move on.

I think it depends on the person too. It's happened to me but only the once. I mentioned on a couple of threads yesterday that we'd felt Disneyed out after a DLP trip a few years ago and ended up having a break from DLP for three years (we did do WDW and DCL in that time so we were more DLPed out rather than Disneyed out).

By the time that three years was up I was desperate to get back to DLP (!) and after the trip (2011) couldn't wait to book again for the following year (this summer just gone). We won't be going next year (2013) as we're going to DL and can't afford both so I'm quite sad that I don't have a trip to DLP to look forward to in the foreseeable future.

You enjoy getting good use out of those APs. :thumbsup2

I used to think that as well how can you ever go to Disney too much.

I don't think going to different Disney's is the same thing though.

We went to DLP 4 times in 15 months and to be honest it was too much. Our last trip was Christmas though and it was so different Disney at its best. But the other 3 trips were all too similar not enough had changed in between visits and we weren't away from it long enough to miss it.

Now DH said we aren't aloud to go back we need to see other places in the world I want to go back more then ever lol

I've been 7 times (5 with my family) and we all think if we go back we shouldn't go for more than 3 days at a time or we'll get a bit sick of the place!

Obviously, i'd go back tomorrow if I could! But after we took our last trip (our longest one to date) it did get a bit tiring after the 3rd/4th day!.

Doing Disneyland Anaheim next year instead :) then back to DLP when theres a new ride.

Been twice so far this year and once last year. The last trip for me was too much. For the kids though they can't get enough of it and really do not want to come back when it's time. If your going for the kids then unless they say, i don't think you can go to much. From my point of view as an adult yes definitely you can go too many times.

I have infact told my son that next year we are not going to Disney Paris and the look of disappointment on his face was a picture, until i said the reason we weren't going to Paris was because we are going to Orlando instead...lol:rotfl2:

I wrote in my Highs and Lows that I'm feeling a little Disney-ed out. We've been more times than I can count in the last 10 years and it's probably getting a bit much.

I still love Disney and will return (possibly late next year) but feel I've overdone it a bit and should holiday elsewhere, perhaps saving for a trip to Orlando where it's not such an intense Disney experience.

DH & I have been to WDW in Feb., May, and just returned from our Dec. trip...all in 2012. We also are booked for Feb. & Oct. 2013. I don't think its too many times...maybe its just us :confused3

Once a year suits me nicely, it gives us time to look forward to our trips! I don't think it would feel as special and magical if we took multiple trips a year, plus it means we can really go all out when we do go.

I'd love to go twice a year for me Disney dose, but it's not possible. 6night/7day stay was so right for us. I didn't get Disney blues after that visit as I did a year before. I think staying 6 nights gives us enough time to enjoy our stay with no rush ant take time for walks, meals, rest etc. we'll see what happens this time

We try and go every two years. In that time something new has been built or a new ride or a new land has opened. That way it keeps our trips special.

Can't agree more about 6 days, 7 night trips you can take your time and the holiday feels more relaxed.

When I popped into a travel agents for a quote for my next trip she could not believe we wanted to stay for so long. It's only a weekend destination she kept saying and she was surprised we were not taking children along too.. She has obviously not realised adults can have a fun time at DLP.

I usually do 1 day trip a year & also a 2-3 night stay later on in the year. For me this is enough. I like visiting other places & next year really want to go back to NYC or Vegas but will probably fit in a short Disney stay to go with our January day trip.

Def depends on the persons. I have been 4 times and it was enough for me about 2 trips ago!! But dd2 esp luvs the place. My 7yr old has had enough of it so our march trip will def be our last. We want to see other places and i think because the girls have.been very lucky to have seen some amazing countries they too want to go else where too. Were planning lapland for this time next yr. But i hopeing to sneak in a few days in Portugal without the kids nxt June (i need my sun fix!!)

As others have said, this varies so much for the individual. Our over-riding reason for going to DLP so frequently is for the happiness of our DS. DS has a range of disabilities that include some autistic tendencies and so for him the repetition is part of the attraction – that and the familiarity.

It is not all we do but still comes out favourite with DS. If he was displaying signs of being jaded with DLP we would not go so often but his joy is so infectious so we are happy ourselves. Believe me, with a child with special needs, to have a few days where they are simply happy all the time is a holiday in itself! :thumbsup2

Last year we went twice within 6 weeks - first time as a big family trip at halloween, second time to see the Christmas decorations - and I have to admit that by the end of the Christmas trip I was a bit Disney'd out. Ideally the trips wouldn't have been so close together - the Halloween trip was a present from my inlaws so we had to go when they were going and we knew it would be the last chance we'd have to take DS at Christmas before he started school - and while they were both awesome trips in their own way we were definitely feeling fatigued by the last day. Although awful rain and hubby getting food poisoning from Walts probably didn't help!

We're heading back in February and then after that probably won't be going for a fair while - we're planning on going to Florida in 2015 so need to save for that. I have however said that I want to go back for my 40th (still over 6 years away but I'm a planner) as by that point Villages Nature should be built, Ratatouille will be finished and fingers crossed we'll have a Star Wars land!

DH is definitely in this camp and has said, after two trips this year (one being 6 days in June), he doesn't want to go back for at least next year (and that is after a break of 2.5 years from our last trip).

I wasn't too pleased at first, but now I have had time to think about it (and believe me I have shocked myself!), I can see his point.

We were lucky enough to holiday in DLRP twice this year, a yorkshire cottage and Greece and also DD1 went to Germany. We/she enjoyed them all in their own way. I think Greece in particular was fantastic as we had our first relaxed family holiday as the girls are growing now - no more nappies/weaning/taking the kitchen sink etc :cool1:.

We are off to Egypt next Easter with the family and then who knows in the summer - still nothing booked but I am thinking pool/Med holiday as the girls adore them and we love eating out/going out and about for day trips etc. I am fairly sure that unless something drastic happens, DLRP won't feature in our plans. I had wondered about France with car but the travel alone just doesn't appeal - too trashing for us - DH/DD1 want to try somewhere else.

I do wonder if some of the way I am beginning to feel is because June wasn't such a great trip for us. The girls, although still very small, are getting a bit older, the magic just wasn't there it being our umpteenth trip - not saying that is why as there were various reasons, but I think you start to look into the detail/what isn't working etc more when you have been there so much! However, in contrary, Christmas was amazing - so magical, but I think that was down to the time of year/decs/extra things going on - being our first time. So in summary, I'm not sure it would appeal as much again going say June/non themed time of year again.... at least not for a while.

We too would like to do Florida (on a wider scale than just Disney) in 2015 and boy, do we need to save. For a family of 4, the prices are just ridiculous :crazy2:. The flights alone are two total trips to DLRP And that is priced at staying in the DLH!! But, we are tied to school holidays and so it is silly money!

I think everyone has their own take on this topic - each to their own I say :).

But, to the OP, if I lived near the place and could do a short hop to get there and had APs, then yes, I would take advantage and go regularly - stay cheap and use it as a theme park, rather than a short break destination/holiday if you see what I mean.

I went within 3 weeks of each other this year! It was fab and totally crazy. But I loved every minute of it.

Having been so many times I can say I have never had the Disney'd out feeling. I'm so in love with everything DLP and Disney if I could visit every day I would.

I agree with DLPDreams we had a not so enjoyable trip in September and definetly changed my mind.

I think I have been to DLP 16-17 times still love it and miss it though but I think that's because I know I'm not going back for a long time!

Iv been 10 times I think, my best trips, we're when me and DH went on our own in 2010, and in November 2012 when we took our sons for the first time, It was getting samey going with the family as a teen,
I'd happily go next year especially since ds1 has a dream pass, DH wants to wait til 2014 now when our youngest will be 2.5! He was 6 months on our last trip and was abit too much for him I think!
I think I may try and fit a weekend in maybe just me and ds1 next year but I don't think it will be our main holiday next year as DH has said he wants a change and he doesn't hve the Disney bug like I do! x
