A poll...

Who's still going this weekend? (leaving Sept. 11 or on)

My plans are Sept. 11-18 and I have not cancelled.

I'm leaving tomorrow as well.

I did change from POFQ to WL because I feel safer with the interior corridors.

Go Away Ivan!

We're supposed to leave at 10:30pm Tuesday night and arrive in Orlando around 6am. We're expecting our flight to be cancelled sometime Tuesday but are praying that Florida might be spared!!
We've decided if there's a plane going to Orlando next week, we will be on it! Otherwise, we will probably have to re-book sometime in January. We would be so bummed!!! Now's time for some pixie dust!!! Not just for us but for all those poor people in Florida already suffering from Charley & Frances.
Here's a little sunshine for you guys...:sunny: :sunny: :sunny:

We're on our way down tomorrow. Staying at POP. See you there!

We are still going too. We are leaving tomorrow as well. We are staying at the Boardwalk.

I am really worried about my mom and my brother and his family. They are supposed to meet us there on Wed. afternoon. I hope their flights aren't cancel.

What a stressful week this has been!! I have changed my mind ten time about going. Today we decided we would go.

Still going!! (and still packing!!!! :) )

*don't forget some extra water and flashlights- just in case*

OUr flight is still a go from phoenix, az at 853 am tomorrow. just go done packing just about everything we need. we should be at the bwv 1 bedroom unit when or if ivan hits. hope he doesnt though!!!

We're leaving tomorrow for the week. Disney has moved us from FW cabins to OKW 2bdrm. villa.

Thanks for posting.

I am confident we will be OK.
Worst case I will be "stuck" in Animal Kingdom Lodge for a day.
Oh..what a punishment! ;)

Anyone know Disney's official "stance" on the issue of coming down or cancelling? I know they are at this time offering no penalties to cancel, but I'm wondering what they actually prefer...people to come or not come.

9/11 - 9/19, splitting the stay between WL & AKL. Just checking the advisories every 3 hours & hoping & praying all we get is rain but I'm packing as we speak :wave2:

Please. for the sake of your safety and your families, read what Mary wrote at Mousesavers.com before you go this week! It might make you re-think your decision.

I know it's disappointing to cancel, believe me. We would be arriving for our Ohana PS right now if all were well.

But it's an unprecedented time in FL, please read what she says then decide with all the facts in mind.

DH and I just talked, and are still planning on leaving tomorrow...BUT, when we stay overnight (GA/SC) tomorrow night and if we see Ivan is heading for FL, we will turn back around on Sunday. Otherwise, the trip is still on.

Hi,

My husband and I are leaving tomorrow morning for WDW and we are still going.

i did read the mousesavers post and while i appreciate opinions, and certainly acknowledge her feelings about the situation, i felt that the message was a bit sensationalist. the attitude of the message was "don't come here or you'll die." i'm not trying to be argumentative here, just offer my feelings. i'm not sure what "facts" are presented in her statement. her opinion is "Because of the potential threat presented by Hurricane Ivan, if you have plans to visit Orlando between September 12-16, you should reschedule. This hurricane has the potential to be a killer!" she is suggesting rescheduling based on potential not absolute certainty. i have been reading various weather reports and news reports all day long. there are different and uncertain takes on the hurricane path and none of them ever said, don't travel to florida.

i have felt conflicted these past few days about staying or going.
i have family that live in florida and we have already discussed the situation and they themselves felt i should continue with the trip.

were i visiting the caribbean or the keys i would most certainly reschedule.
however i feel the situation in orlando will be suitable for me.

i'm not trying to bring anyone down with this post. we're all making tough decisions right now.

my point in setting up this thread was to find out who is going and garner some support for those of us who are continuing with our trips.

stina,

Thanks for expressing how I feel. I am tearing my hair out trying to deal with my DH who keeps trying to bring me down with negativity and mopiness. I have prepared us for this trip and plan on still going (with or without my DH ;) )

I plan on heeding any warnings if I see it affecting LBV/Orlando and our safety.

We're still undecided. Actually, we would definitely cancel if our airline would give us a transfer or refund but since we booked a charter flight, they will not allow us to cancel. Our decision now is whether we swallow the lost money on the flight and stay home, or go and risk it..... tough call.... :(

i'm still going...flying down in like 13 hours. if i was flying on monday, tuesday, or wednesday, i'd still be thinking about rebooking...but i'd wait until the day before until i rebooked. since i'm flying on saturday, i know my flight will be safe. i'll probably have 2 good days before the storm hits. once it hits, i might be stuck in the hotel, and that's fine with me--that's the downside to saving money and booking during hurricane season.

at this point going down there and sitting out a storm will be less stressful than trying to rebook with my travel agent who lives on the west coast of FL and is trying to pack up her family and is most likely NOT in the mood to help me. add that changing my plans at work--it's tough for me to get time off.

honestly, i think hurricanes are the worst type of disaster. i can't think of another type of disaster that we can see slowly inching towards us, allowing us to prepare, yes, but also allowing us to get all hysterical about the possible devistation. it's like the most horrible torture. with tornados, car accidents, hell--even terrorist attacks--it happens and we do what we can to survive. hurricanes are just torture, at least that's my opinion, and i think that might be fueling some of the overwhelming fear we're seeing now on some of the boards.

everyone has to make the decision they feel is right for them, and no one should feel guilty for it.

DH & I have been worried about this all week. I've been double stressed for my parents who have a winter home in a retirement community in Venice which my parents think will be destroyed if Ivan hits it directly.

I understand the authors concern about tourists coming down and taking up hotel rooms, and the condition of Florida after the two hurricanes that came through already.

Let's all pray that Ivan fizzles out or goes out to sea.
