Please share your pregnant WDW experiences, including the month you visited and how far along you were in with the pregnancy...

Is there a "good" time during the pregnancy to go? DH and I are big on rides (Space Mtn, Splash Mtn, ToT, RnRC, etc) and I know I wouldn't be able to ride them. Should we skip it, and maybe go somewhere else on vacation?

Oh, and what about flying when pregnant- is this ok?

PS I'm not pregnant (that I know of!), I'm just curious.

Thanks!

Melissa

I went in August and I was 5.5 months pregnant. To be honest, I love Disney and thought that this trip would be just as great as all the other trips. We (Dh and I) are also big on rides but I thought that it would let me experience things I hadn't experienced yet.

If I had to do it again, I would not go when pregnant. I was VERY pooped and really had little desire to be at the parks (and I'm a big park person). It was super hot (yes it was August but being pregnant made it much worse) and my feet were tired. I definitely needed to sleep late, go to bed early, and take a nap each day. We only did two parks (Epcot and MK) and we actually thought going to the parks was a waste of money for us.

If I had no choice but to go to Disney pregnant and I could chose how far along I was I'd go when I was about 15 weeks. At that point my m/s would have been gone and I would have had energy.

I told my DH at Disney we were expecting child #2. We were overjoyed! I was sooo tired and HOT (May) but we really had a magical trip anyway. I took care to drink lots of water and not ride anything but Dumbo and It's A Small World. I must have been only a month or two along since I was able to keep the secret from DH until just the right moment. I'd do it again if I had the chance!!

I agree, I have been pregnant at Disneyland twice (once with son, once with daughter) and both times it was around 14 weeks. That was far enough in to no longer feel sick and not so far in that I felt drained. It was spring both times and not hot, no way no how would I go in the summer at any point in a pregnancy. The hormones make you really warm/hot already. Plus retaining water can be a big issue (and dangerous too).

I used to fly quite a bit. You need to make sure to have an aisle seat so it is easy to get up and pee or walk around. Drink tons of water too, and be sure to move around some, and it is fine.

Rides... yeah, that part is not fun. I love Disney but I am a thrill ride girl. It was hard to walk by my favorite rides. Still I think any trip to Disney is a good trip.

i've been to wdw twice while pregnant.

the first at 8wks along in 2001. oy. morning sickness kicked in about two days before we left, it was early september so HOT and i was tired! still a great vacation though, i just followed all the recommended advice of taking it easy and drinking loads of water.

last year we went in june and i was about 6.5 months, and i now had a 3yr old. looking back i must have been in the throes of pregnancy induced insanity :rotfl: . man it was like 95 and humid and i was big, hot and tired! we took it really slow...did early morning, back to pool after lunch and back to the park after dinner. it actually went better than i expected.

luckily my non-pregnant trips have outnumbered the pregnant ones

I'm headed for Thanksgiving and will be 16 weeks... I am so excited for this trip that it will be fun no matter what!

I've been to Disney twice while pregnant. The first time was December 2001. I was about 7 weeks along, and MS and fatigue did me in. I didn't enjoy the trip as much as I thought I would, but it was still a great trip.

In February 2004 I was about 18 weeks pregnant. Not only did I have my 18 month old son along, I also had 31 8th graders! I took my 8th Grade Show Choir to WDW to perform in Disney's Magic Music Days program. I honestly don't know how I did all of that. Looking back, I was working SO hard to fundraise for the trip, rehearse and perfect the kids' performances, coordinate everything from travel arrangements, hotel ressies, park tickets, goodie bags for my students, a PS at Chef Mickey's for 50 people! I must have been in the midst of pregnancy induced insanity! But the trip was great and all the kids had a great time and performed so well.

BTW, when I was on my honeymoon in 2000, I saw a young woman who looked about 4-5 months pregnant ride Dinosaur at AK. I was so worried about her and her unborn child. I mean, no ride is worth risking the safety of an unborn child, you know? I still think about that to this day.

My advice would be to drink lots of water, take it slow and see some of the attractions that maybe you haven't seen.

I was there many year ago when I was pregnant with my son, child number 2. We went in April and I was about 5 months along. I had a complicated pregnancy, coming right after a miscarriage, but I did ok at Disney. Remember to drink lots of water. Also I would skip rides that I felt were too much and sometimes even skipped rides so I could just sit and rest while my husband took our daughter on a ride or two. If you take it easy, drink enough and eat well I think you will be ok. One thing, there are tons of restrooms around, you are never far from one. LOL!!! I say go for it if your doctor says it's ok.

Have Fun!!

I went on day trips to Disney all through my pregnancy (not going to waste APs). ;) You just have to know your limitations. We sat down alot and people watched, ate and drank frequently, and were very careful what rides we went on. Don't try to go through the turnstyles, though - use the handicapped/stroller gate... Disney was actually really fun when I was pregnant because the cast members and the characters all made such a huge fuss! :goodvibes

I also went to Islands of Adventure when I was 32 weeks pg with 50 high school students. That was hard.... but my students had a blast and kept making plans of what to do if I were to go into labor in the park - too cute!

Life doesn't stop when you are pg - you have to be careful and put the needs of your baby first, but enjoy that time - it's over before you know it! :goodvibes

Gosh, I can't believe a CM would let a pregnant person ride such a jerky attraction! Shame on them (even the mother-to-be!). :sad2:

Anyway, if you venture over to mouseplanet.com and type in pregnancy, there are a couple articles that should pop up (or out! teehee). One of the writers wrote about going pregnant and another about vacationing with a baby. I thought it was very interesting!

I just heard that Kilamanjaro Safari is one of the rides that expectant mothers are advised not to ride. Is this true? DW will be in her 7th week on our arrival. This news just bummed her out. Can someone please confirm and if so, why?

Thanks.

I was 6.5 mos. when We went to WDW. I was advised to not go on rides with cyntrifical force. My feet hurt like hell. (waddle, waddle, waddle) My husband was tickled not to have to "be on a dead sprint" through the parks. I did discover the BEST thing for a pregnant woman at WDW....Cross Country Creek at BB. I floated in that tube for hours! AAAHHHH!

I went this past April while 7 weeks along and overall, I think I did pretty well. The weather was great and we all had a great trip. I avoided all the big rides.

I went again this last July while 5.5 months pregnant. It was a fun yet hot trip. The key was to take lots of breaks and drink lots of water. Since I couldn't ride some of the favorites like RnRC, and BTMRR, I had a great time relaxing and people watching.

Our next trip is next week and I will be 8 month along. That should be an interesting trip for us to say the least! I will be doing lots of people watching and relaxing.

I always thought Disney was fun whether I was pregnant or not pregnant. I'm just a little slower when I'm pregnant though. :teeth:
