Let me give you a little background first to compare to.

We primaraly (sp?) have gone to WDW in Mid March for our spring break. We loved it. The crowds were high but it really didn't bother us. We used fast passes and basically just waited for what we really wanted to do. The weather was very mild and manageable.

We have also just been in Late Sept and the crowds were pretty much non-existant for most of the time. It was hot though, very hot. We didn't mind though. Took frequent breaks in Air conditioned attractions and drank plenty of water.

We are now planning a trip June 16 - 23. My Fiancee and I are taking my soon-to-be in-laws to WDW for a week. They have not been to WDW in 15 years at least. We are probably going to be staying at a moderate resort and we are going to be on the dining plan. We love the parks but getting every ride in is not our priority. We are going to focus on some great meals and seeing the resorts and strolling through the parks and doing our most favorite rides.

Now that you all have a backround. I have some questions. How is the weather? I expect it to be hot and humid and probably rain at least once a day. It did that in Sept and and since it was so Hot, you were dry in 15 minutes after the rain shower :). Also how are the crowds? Are they worse than spring break?

Just trying to get a feel of what to expect. We will most likely stay away from EMH parks except maybe to enter the park for a meal.

Any advice or tips would be great.

THanks

Buy the spray fans and poncho's before you go and keep them handy. We've gone the past two June's. Two years ago it rained a LOT every day, and the parades and Fantastmic was cancelled and we were bummed. Last year it rained briefly two of the days but were sunny the other so that was NICE! We're hoping for a repeat of last year. Crowds are big, but go early, take an afternoon break, and use Fastpass and you'll be alright.

Go early; use fastpasses ... it will be very crowded. Also VERY hot and humid, so take sunscreen.

June will not be much different than September. You will likely se a little less rain though. You can also catch Star Wars Weekends at MGM the first two weekends of the month. We will be there at the same time.

We've been 3 Junes in a row. Take your patience first. The crowds are not bad in very early June, but as schools close for summer, the crowds pick up dramatically.
Take plenty of rest breaks and pace yourself (sounds like you've already thought of that).
It rains every day...sometimes all day. Take a poncho or a raincoat (lightweight and small).
Take the spray fans (if you like those things) with you or take plenty of money to buy them at the park. Personally, I don't take them because they can be monstrous to lug around and then they will leak all over you if you are not careful.
There are plenty of water fountains in the park from which to refill your fanny pack water bottles instead of buying bottled water all the time.
Many of the lines have large sprayer-type fans to keep patrons cool while waiting for autographs. Even if you don't want the autograph, you could stand in front of the fan a few minutes.
Enjoy.

Bring ponchos, bug spray, drinks lots of water and if you have long hair, pull it up, it helps with the humidity.
The little battery operated fans with squirt bottles are nice, too.

We'll be there the same week. Maybe we'll bump into you somewhere. This will be our first trip though. Thanks for all the suggestions.

Someone mentioned bug spray. I added to my packing list. Are the bugs really that bad?

A couple of pieces of advice for anyone traveling to Disney World in the summer.

1 - My husband sweats a lot and will quickly soak a T shirt halfway through the day. We just carry an extra one in a large shoulder strap bag we have. He changes in the men's room and then he's refreshed and ready to go. A fresh pair of socks picks me up.

2 - I always will carry a couple of washcloths in a small Ziploc bag (you can really mush the cloths down if you don't have a big bag to carry them around. This is my life saver. Take a cloth and go into the restroom and wash yourself off with cold water. Much better than paper towels and very refreshing. Plop it back into the Ziploc for the next time. I once had a lady offer me $10 to buy my cloth!

3 - You can take one water bottle (or more if you have kids that won't share) and refill from water fountains all over the park. Saves space and money. If you can't easily see a water fountain, look for a restroom. There are fountains right outside each restroom.

Those things and ponchos are our survival kit for our summer trips.

Our last trip was in June 16-23 a few years ago and I am not sure I will ever go during that time again. The humidity was horrible. I am not a fan of afternoon breaks but we had to take one. We were soaked with sweat before we even made it down to the end of Main Street. I agree, bring an extra shirt and wash cloth. Make sure you can do some laundry or bring lots of extra clothes. I am glad we had a washer and dryer in our villa because the clothes were so gross at the end of the day. Nights were wonderful at the parks. We went back each night despite having young children. The crowds were manageable but you still need a strategy.
good luck.

we were there basically same time you are going in 2005. We did need to outfits per day. Back to room in afternoon, shower, refresh for dinner with new clothes. Between the sweat and the rain showers I had to change every day and ended up washing two loads of clothes mid way through trip.
We loved it though and are going back 6/16 - 6/23/06. We got misting fans in Walmart last year for just under $5 bucks. Not to shabby. :donald:

Head out early, use fastpass when possible. It will be hot so go back to the resort to take a break and swim if you can.

We were there last June around the same time you're going. Not too much rain, but plenty of sun and humidity. Keep hydrated. Have lunch at a cool sit-down restaurant mid-afternoon. Pace yourself and have a good sense of humor. And use Fastpasses. And don't tick off Darth Vader by saying "Yoda rules!" when having your picture taken with the bad boy. :yoda:
We never encountered many bugs.
Have a great trip!

Where can you buy the spray fans outside of the parks?

Got ours at Target last year in the big bins they start to put out this time of year by the sand toys, etc. 1.00 each, they were great!

Include mini-breaks in your plan as well. The hotel break in the afternoon is fantastic, but it is tough to go running through the parks in that heat and humidity. Take 5 or 10 minutes and stroll through a shop or sit under a tree and hydrate. Find a shady spot to wait for the parade.

I went in June last year with my boyfriend, and the best advice I have is to make sure to take a break in the afternoon! Then you can get out of the heat and go swimming at your resort, or maybe go to Downtown Disney and shop in the air conditioning! We were there towards the end of June, so it was pretty crowded because schools were out. It rained every day we were there, but it was just a few showers here and there, lots of times in the afternoon, when we were napping on our break. We had one very hot day, and we chose Typhoon Lagoon. I would also suggest to take advantage of the morning EMH to cut down on wait time for rides (and its a lot cooler in the AM), but since you said you don't want to do as many rides, you should be okay doing them during the day (use Fastpasses). Some restaurants got crowded between 11-2, because that is when people tend to be hungry.

Necessities: SUNBLOCK!! (I got a nasty burn!) Plenty of water. Spray fan, if you like those. Ponchos. (Don't forget to hang them up when you get back to the resort, or they get really gross!) Backpack to carry it all in. PATIENCE! :sunny: Have fun!
