Going to WDW and not going to MK? You should have your head examined!
Everybody is entitled to their opinions though.

I just posted this on the Biggest rookie mistakes thread, but I had to post it alone because I still can't believe it and I'm wondering if anyone else has made this mistake (and will admit it!):

I've got the best (and it wasn't me, it was my boyfriend, before he knew me):
NOT GOING TO THE MAGIC KINGDOM!!

Those words...are...hurting...my...eyes.

Make it stop :scared1:

Bottom line; people don't bother to do their research. What people consider "research" is talking to a few friends and that's the end of it. No one picks up a book or does the research online. There are travel agents who are willing to take the time to talk to you about the vacation that you're planning. I swear, if I didn't do the months of research before my first trip to WDW, my DH and I would have probably had a miserable trip.

You are so RIGHT.In 2004 a school friend of ours went to WDW for 4 days and ONLY DID THE MK.She didn't realize there were other parks!!!!! :earseek: So last year when she was going in Oct. for MNSSHP,in Aug. I printed her pages and pages of info out on ALL of WDW!

Okay....close your eyes and cover your ears....
We've done several trips without visiting the MK.Our last trip in Dec. we were only there a couple days .All we did was MGM and the Market Place. :)

I just don't get people sometimes!! I can see for those of you who have been there so many times, but this was their one and only trip, and it was the lack of research/preparation that appalls me. When they got home and realized their mistake, they were pretty upset. The daughter is now 15 and has not been back to WDW since, so the moment was totally lost!!

I have been to WDW 26 times (and I live in Canada!), and on only 3 of those trips have I not gone to MK FIRST! I remember a couple of years ago being in Epcot on our first day, and I spent the day thinking "this is wrong ... this is wrong". Got up the next morning, hit the MK at 8AM and all was right with the world again. :teeth:

To each his own ... but even when I'm 98 years old, I will still insist on hitting MK first on all trips. Maybe by then I'll be able to afford my Poly-lagoon view. :lmao:

I routinely go to WDW and don't go to the MK. (It's my least favorite park.) Now I can't imagine not taking a 7 year old, but I also blame them.... Going on vacation without research is just wasting money. (And "asking" thier friends didn't qualify as research)

My entire family (husband and kids) have requested that when we go to Disney on spring break this year, we don't do any theme parks - only the water parks!

They think I am crazy to want to stand in line in the hot weather and pound the pavement when I could be relaxing in the cool water.

So we are compromising - 9 days in Florida, 2 days at each water park, a couple of days just hanging at the hotel and 1 day at Wet N Wild and 1 or 2 days at Universal. They say if they have to go to a theme park they choose Universal over MK. I think they are all traitors, but what's a poor mom to do?

My sister made a stop at WDW for one day while she was in the area.

It was her, her DH, and their DD (probably 4 at the time) and DS (prob 2).

For their ONE park they chose

EPCOT!!!!

Seriously, 2 small children and they took them to Epcot! The sad thing is that they really don't have a lot of money and I don't see the kids making it back there any time soon.

Epcot :sad2:

Going to the parks, MK for sure, is Disney, there are water parks everywhere, beaches, and local pools for meet and greet, why even bother going to Disney if not doing the parks. Great food, great rides, plenty of shopping, and people watching.. DW and I love the parks..

Okay, I have a dirty little secret. I'm going to WDW and we're not setting foot in the MK. Or Epcot, or MGM or Animal Kingdom! Shocking, but true. See, my sons are 17 & 15 and they are WAY more interested in Blizzard Beach & Typhoon Lagoon then the parks. I've asked them 5 or 6 times if they are sure and their response has been, "um, girls, bikinis, water rides, temps in the 90s, um -- duh" pretty much every time. I've been to disney 13 times but this will be their first trip. Yes, I feel like I am neglecting them and being an evil mom and all else, but they are thrilled silly with the prospects of me getting them waterpark annual passes and letting them spend as much time as they want each day there. I've also got a list of other things for the 3 of us to do including the movies at either FW or the AMC theater, reservations at California Grill late enough to see the fireworks, a Wishes cruise (couldn't get in on an Illuminations cruise), plans to go miniture golfing and going to see the Tampa Bay Bucs training camp.

Now this is perfect for my family and a great way to save $$$ (waterpark annual passes are only $106) but I know it's not for everyone. If we had a 7 year old, we would be hitting MK for sure.

Am I the only one to do Disney and not hit any of the 'real' parks???

15 and 17 and telling you "girls, bikinis...." wow......i feel more uncomfortable than i did last year when i was at Typhoon Lagoon.

I only wish there were waterparks everywhere! The closest waterpark we have is a real small one in Seattle (300 miles away). The nearest real big waterpark would be 1,000 miles away in So. California. My family loves the water and we have cool rainy winters here. So I think that is why we love going to the Disney waterparks each spring. I drool when I watch the Travel Channel and see the great waterparks located all over the US, except in the Pacific NW!
