DH and I are off on a little adult only adventure this weekend. I am looking for fun things to do in Vegas. We are staying at the Venetian. We'll only be there for Sun. - Wed. so not a lot of time. Dh likes to gamble I don't really care to much. I do like those little pony races though!;)

So for all of you that have been there, what are the best, most fun things to do?

Thanks!:D

I love to go shopping. There are many different places to shop at, but I like The Desert Passage at the Alladin and also The Forum Shops at Ceasars Palace.
You could go to see the Secret Garden at the Mirage that has the tigers from the Sigfried and Roy show, the Dolphin Habitat, or the Shark Reef if you are into animals.
I would recommend going to the Bellagio hotel to see the dancing fountains and their amazing conservatory.
If you're into chocolates and have a car, you could drive into Henderson and go to the Ethel M's Chocolate Factory and Cactus Garden.
There are so many different things to do in Las Vegas that you don't have to pay for. Enjoy your time there.

By far the best thing to do is visit all the casinos ! they all have different themes and some have great free shows! be sure not to miss the free show at the Rio, the volcano at the Mirage, the Bellagio dancing water, Treasure Islands free show in front of the casino, and many other things to see as you visit each casino!!
If you're looking for a great (not free though) show to see, I highly recommend Danny gans !! on the cheaper side I recommend "The tribute to Frank, Dean and Sammy" !! there are so many things to do in Vegas, you definately won't be bored !!
Have a great time !!!!! ::yes::

The Forum Shops at Caesars, Bellagio Fountain, Cirque's Mystere at Treasure Island and -O- at Bellgio.

Thnaks for the quick replies! Shopping, I'm good at that! Chocolate, I'm good at that too but still have 4 extra cruise pounds!;) We would like to see a show, but no idea which one. I do want to see the fountain and also the gondola ride at the hotel.

Is all of this close enough to walk too, or maybe take the monorail? Or a cab? Lastly if DH is at a table some where is it safe for me to wonder around alone? I don't want to sound silly but don't want to be stupid either!:D

Well one of the best parts of Vegas is no more (well in a family friendly format) is the Pirate Show at Treasure Island (aka now as TI)- Ive been told to avoid the show with young kids as its pretty risque

Vegas has some kewl Roller Coasters with Speed at the Sahara THe one on the Stratosphere, one in Circus Circus and NYNY

The best though is in Primm a 30 min south drive- Desperado :)

Yes, you will be safe to go about yourself from hotel to hotel. Do watch your belongings and if you are alone, just try not to stop while you are on the streets, just for safety reasons. There are all kinds of people there.

One last question for tonight. Is it really 101 degrees right now? I think I'll be packing summer clothing!::yes:: Even if it is after Labor Day!

Thanks everyone very much. I was not too excited but am feeling better now.:teeth: DH looks like I do 5 days before a Disney trip!

DH:bounce: Me:confused3

There are a few Las Vegas DISers here, so maybe you could post another thread titled to the Las Vegas DISers asking about the temp.

I was iffy about Vegas at the start because of the gambling, but then I had gotten really into it. The casinos, shopping, and all the different activities and scenery. Have a fun trip.

I enjoyed walking through all the different hotels along the strip and seeing the different themes.

The Venetian has a nice day spa if you're a spa junkie like I am.

All the suggestions on here are good ones!

As for the monorail, it had a little mishap at the beginning of the month and as far as I know is still shut down. I think I heard Thursday as a possible date for it to start up again, but it's one of those "wait and see"/"don't hold your breath" things.

Temperature really isn't that bad in Vegas. It used to make me laugh, but "it's a DRY heat" really is true! Plus when it's that hot there are a number of places along the strip where you can either walk inside or have misters outside, so that breaks the heat a great deal.

My personal favourite things to do:
- spend time with the dolphins at the Secret Garden
- eat at the Aladdin buffet - especially before Planet Hollywood plays around with it.
- Visit the Promenade at the Star Trek Experience, and eat *something* at Quark's. A Warp Core Breach is a mighty fine thing to have there too!

The monorail reopened yesterday. A tire fell off, but no one was injured in the incident.

Since we are not up on gambling, We went to each themed casino and bought a teddy bear from each gift shop. The Treasure Island had a Pirate bear. The hilton hada Star Trek Bear, and so on.

I am leaving for Vegas this Friday. What a cute idea, to buy a bear from the different casinos. If you do not mind me asking, how much were they? I have so many people I need to buy something for, any other ideas for gifts? Thanks.

Yes, it really is that warm during the day, and will be very dry. Make sure if you venture out during the day you have sunscreen, find shade and drink twice the water you think you should to avoid heat problems. Summer clothes for sure, and I would grab a light cardigan to put over them for evening as it cools down after dark and can be cold inside. Don't forget a bathing suit for a swim, and I know the Spa at the Venetian is run by Canyon Ranch (based in Tucson) and is wonderful. I would bet you can find a treatment you would enjoy.

OH a Spa, yes I can do that too! This trip is getting better and better!

Patty3 will you still be there on Sun? Where are you staying? It is fun to think another Diser will be there at the same time.

About clothing: How dressy is it in the evening? I don't really have "going out/ club" clothing. Will capris be ok, sort of more "resort casual"?

Do we need to hire a car from the airport or will a cab do as well?

I like the bear idea, shopping with a purpose!;)

Thanks again!:teeth:

Clothing wise- Everything goes in Vegas (Unless you have a $$ event planned like a show then its more classy)

If you are staying on the strip a cab would be just fine the airport is only 4 or 5 blocks from the strip so I wouldnt imagine it'd cost alot

Last time i was in vegas I went to the spa at the venetian. It was great.

even if you don't like gambling, there are certain gaming machines that I call time-wasters. When my BF is off gambling and I am not in the mood to lose a bunch of money, I will play the little horse racing machines.

they aren't too easy to find. Usually they are by the sports book in some of the casinos (MGM, Luxor, Excalibur and whatever hotel it is that has the Star Trek thing). They are little plastic horses (or camels) that race around the track and you bet on the odds of the horses. You most likely won't win a lot of money (I did win $20 once), but it is a lot of fun, and less frustrating than the slot machines.

Disneycrazymom, I will be leaving for Las Vegas this friday. DH is going to a conference there which starts on Monday afternoon. This weekend we are going to the Grand Canyon. I would love to stay at the Venetian, but we have to stay where the conference is and that is at Bally's. We have tried to get some show tickets, I really wanted to see Danny Gans and also O. Since I am trying at such a late date the tickets were very expensive, over $200 a ticket, last time I checked. We have made dining reservations at Emerils Fish House, Spago, a new restaurant opened by the chef/owner of the French Laundry in Napa and I do not remember the other place. I was happy to see your questions, I was wondering about capris as well and hope they are ok to wear at these restaurants. Since I will be spending the days alone, I was happy to see the suggestions on things to do.
