I hope that someone can help. We are looking for a hotel room for about $100 a night in NYC. Is that possible? I have been looking and when I find one, it says that I have too many people in my party. I have two adults and two kids, 6 and 7. That doesn't seem like a lot to me.

Any great tips about the show or what to do before and after. We will be there for 3 days. We are taking the train from DC.

If you have any information, please let us know!
Thanks!
Kitty

Sorry I can't help you, but have a great time. I would love to see Lion King but think I might have to wait another year or so for my son to enjoy it!!

Good luck!

When you do go to see TLK, you'll see Paige Davis's husband, Patrick Page, playing Scar.:D

What about a Courtyard by Marriott? I think there is one on 42nd street (but I may be wrong). You can go directly through Marriott to book. If you find a cheaper rate they will give you that rate.

Here is the link to Marriott's hotels in NYC:

Have fun. NYC is great. I was just there the other day to see Chris Rock at MSG.

I can only add that I have seen the show there in New York, as well as here in Chicago, and a specatacle it is. Enjoy.

You might want to try to get a room on Hotwire if you are looking for a room around $100. I have only paid under $100 for a room in New York once (at the Howard Johnson's on 8th Ave.). I usually wind up paying between $160 and $200 for nice places (Times Square Hilton, New York Hilton, Rennesaince). I definitely find that in New York, you get what you pay for in a room.

I've never stayed there, but some friends of mine like the Belvedere a lot, and they've gotten decent rates there.

Stay away from the Best Western President. I stayed there, and it was just about the worst hotel that I've ever stayed in. We actually had bars on our window. The door lock didn't work (and they wouldn't come up to fix it), and the shower didn't drain properly.

As far as other things to do in NYC.... Just walking around is pretty awesome if you've never been, you can stop by Rockefeller and ice skate and then to times square to take the obligatory picture. But I know 6 & 7 year olds need to be entertained. So I would definately say FAO Schwartz, the coolest toy store ever, but if I remember right they went bankrupt, so toys r us is a second best, they have a ferris wheel inside. You could check to see if the Bronx Zoo will fit into your schedule (not sure when you're leaving). There are also tons of museums you can go to - being from DC that may not interest you so much. The Natural History museum is a lot more kid-friendly than the Met Museum of Art. Have Fun.

Check out this hotel... it's a little more than you were looking for $129 a night (DOUBLE DOUBLE NORTH CITY VIEW), but its right near the museums and Central Park

I was looking at staying here for a weekend trip with my son and I live on Long Island.

Just Curious, When are you going??? We have tickets for 2/22 6:30pm show. I didn't know Patrick Davis was even in this!!:bounce: :bounce:

Enjoy the Lion King, I loved it very much when I caught it on tour here in Dallas. I believe their is a disney store near there as well. Been a few years since I last visited :(

There is a fantastic hotel on 49th and Broadway. That's about 7 blocks from the New Amsterdam, where TLK is playing. They have a FANTASTIC cafe that's really cheap. I've been in their rooms, and they're great, but I'm not sure on price. I'm pretty sure they're fairly reasonable.

A word of caution, however. Someone mentioned that you get what you pay for, and such is the case!!!! I stayed at a Best Western for $120/night, and the room was smaller than an All-Stars room. They're teeny.

Although they're somewhat pricier, I can vouch for quality at the Doubletree Suites Times Square, as well as the Crowne Plaza on Broadway.

Another option is to stay OFF of Times Square, and just use the subway.

Have a fantastic time! It's a PHENOMENAL show!

I can't thank you enough for all of the great info you have all posted!
I was on the Dec. 13th Eastern Magic Cruise and the suprise guests were Paige Davis and Patrick Page! That was so fun to meet them and boy, was my sister jealous! I got the best photo of the three of us blowing raspberries at the camera that I sent to my sister. :p

As for the trip, we are getting there on Wednesday, March 17 and leaving on Saturday. The show we are going to is Thursday. I hope our seats are good. I was so worried about not being able to see the stage well. If anyone is familiar with the seating, please let me know if I should be worried or not. They are row G seats 10-16 even. I thought I heard about pillows to boost the young ones up, but not sure if that is a vicious rumor or not. If this is true, do you have to "rent" it?

I checked the Excelsior and the room rate is $179, which is only $10 more than the Comfort Inn. Crazy!

If we stay out of the city area and take a subway, we wouldn't want to stay too far out of the city to save some money. Oh! We want our cake and eat it too!

Keep those ideas coming! I love all of the great information!

Aloha,
Kitty

Have a great time! They do have booster seats for kids and they are free. All you have to do is ask one of the ushers. Aak early since there will probably be a lot of kids. We did this for DS-4 and he had a great view.

The whole theater has great views. (Except the ones we had! We had front row and couldn't see anything that happened at the rear of the stage  ) Here's a copy of the seating chart for the theater: http://www.ticketmaster.com/seatingchart/24614/1732

If you are arriving on March 17, be aware that it's St Patrick's Day. Can be a little rowdy after the parade. We used to go in every year for the parade before we had DS and had a great time. Once he gets older we'll probably take him too. DH now marches in the parade if he's got the day off with his PBA.

Since you'll be there during a holiday, it'll be harder to find a cheap room. Personally, I wouldn't stay too far away from Manhattan if you don't know the NYC area. It's a huge city when you take all 5 boroughs into account.

Have a great time!!!

I can't help with the hotel question but I just wanted to say that you will love the show.
I saw it a few years ago in the West End of London and it is an amazing show.
Have a great time.
