Going to Hoop Dee Doo from AK

Hi everyone. I am wondering if someone can help me with some transportation issues. We will be in AK for the day and have a reservation at the Hoop Dee Doo at 6:15. Just wondering what time we should leave by. I read that the best way to Fort Wilderness is taking a direct bus from AK (we don't have our own car). Assuming that is true, what time should we leave AK? I know we need to take another bus once we get to Fort Wilderness, so I am not sure how much time to allow. I don't want to be late but also don't want to cut our time short at AK! Please Help!

How about a bus to the Contemporary and a boat to FW? From the boat, it's a very short walk to the HDDR.

Hi Dan. I saw you are going 12/6. We will be there 12/10-12/17! I did read before that was an option. I just thought adding a boat would take longer rather than taking a direct route by bus. But this is our first visit, so I really have no idea! It seems we will be going past Fort Wilderness to get to Contemporary, then backtracking to go to Fort Wildnerness. If we do take the boat from Contemporary, is the Hoop Dee Doo within walking distance? Or will we still have to take the internal Fort Wilderness bus to get there?

Yes, the boat will take longer.

Fastest would be the bus to FtW and then the internal shuttle to the Settlement. One hour should give you plenty of time.

if you take the bus from AK, you will have to take a second bus at the campground to back of campground. it is a vey long walk about a mile from the front to HDD. i would allow at least an hour, asuming you get right on bus at AK. i would allow a half hour extra for waiting for buses. not sure it is much longer time wise to take the boat as it brings you closer to HDD than the bus from AK but can add a lot of time if you just miss the boat. either way at least 1,5 hours as you walk to buses at AK. i know you said no car but a car would not help you much as you still have to take campground bus as no car parking near HDD.

Either way, bus to FW and then internal bus, or bus to Contemporary and boat, you need to do a two step trip. If me, probably the boat. Plus it is a fun, scenic trip in of itself. Hoop is a very short walk from the dock, no internal bus needed. See item #'s 11 & 12 on map here...
