Going to Gay Games!!!!

We're headed out tomorrow afternoon on our way to Chicago for the Gay Games!!!!!!

(and I'll be sneaking in some architecture...what's a trip to Chicago without? I loves me some Frank Lloyd Wright!!)

So, iankh, does that mean that you will or won't be attending the games?

I competed in the figure skating competition in singles and pairs. Both times it was an absolute blast. I lived in NYC during the competition and it was just so cool to see all the athletes walking around town with their credentials on. The closing ceremonieswere held in Yankee Stadium. As we rode up on the subway the train got gayer and gayer as we got closer and closer to the stadium. The next day was the Gay Pride parade in NYC and it was just a big continuation of the Games.

Amsterdam was just as much fun, even though there was a controversy with the Figure Skating competition. The competition had to be sanctioned and the International Skating Union wouldn't sanction the event because the classified a pair as a man and a woman and would not recognize same sex pair skating. So, instead of competing we had lots of exhibitions that week. It was still fun, but not the same as competing.

My partner works for the press, so I think we will. I really want to go to the men's synchronized swimming competition. I mean, how could I not?

I am not going to Chicago , but I live in montréal , and I am going to the opening ceremonies 0f the Outgames at Olympic stadium. Cirque du Soleil , Martha walsh ( Raining man) and KD Lang are part of the the show and Martina Navratilova will be reading aHuman rights declaration from an international conference held in conjonction with the games. I have a friend who will swim the relay with Mark Tewksbury , olympic gold medal winner , and one other frien will do the triathlon and the 10k run. The city is very exted about this event. If any of you get the CBC or Radio-Canada on there cable , all the ceremonies will be shown live across canda and there will be a daily rap-up of the cometitions !

We had LOTS of fun! I'll have to see if I can learn how to put some pics up on here!

{{{Of course, then we got back to St. Louis, and a HUGE storm blew through last Wednesday night and knocked our electricity out, and we were without power all week. JUST got it back this morning!!
With temp/heat index in excess of 100 degrees, it's been a little hairy to say the least!!
But there are folks here who STILL have no power! So I feel for them, and I hope they get it back soon. It's tough. Time for me to go grocery shopping and refill my fridge/freezer!}}}

But back to the question, the trip was great, we had a blast!!

I'm jealous I've never been to Chicago or the Gay Games. Of course, I live in Central FL, so I have Gayday every year, but oh to travel...
