Going to Ft. Lauderdale instead of WDW!

Okay, I'm having a bit of anxiety here. We are going to Florida next week over school vacation but it's not Disney World!

Well, it's almost here, and now I find myself a bit depressed that I'm not going to Disney!!!!! What is wrong with me? I should just be glad that I'm going somewhere warm after the winter we have had in New England!
Anyone have any words of wisdom to "snap me out of this"?????

How long are you staying for? You could take a quick one or two day three-hour excursion to WDW. I live a little south of Ft Lauderdale and it takes about three hours to drive there. So, you could actually fit in a little 'magic' yet.

What??? You mean there's more to Florida? I always thought there were only 3 things in Florida: Orlando Airport, WDW, and the road that connected them. Guess I should get out more...

We just went to Fort Lauderdale last month and had a great time. A friend owns a condo and let us use it. It is a very lovely area and I'm sure you will have a wonderful time. I know what you mean though, if we weren't going this August to WDW I would have been upset too!! We didn't have enough time to drive to Disney, but as another poster already said it certainly is an option. Even if you don't have the time believe me, you will have a wonderful vacation in Fort Lauderdale. We're from NE too and just seeing palm trees and warm weather sure does wonders for the spirit!!!!!

Could you fly into MCO a day or two early then drive down to Ft. Lauderdale? Maybe that could save you from driving 6 hours roundtrip. I would try to squeeze it in somehow. No matter what have a safe trip and a wonderful time!!!

My dad's in Pompano Beach and whenever we visit him, we always head down to Ft. Lauderdale. We love it there. There is a lot of stuff to do and the beach is beautiful!!

I have family that lives in the Ft. Lauderdale area and there is plenty to do there!! You'll have a GREAT time, PM me if you want any more specifics!!

I live in Fort Lauderdale, and the drive isn't too bad, as everyone else has said.

However, if it's not feasible to do WDW and Ft Laud, then I'm sure you can still enjoy your visit here. Beach Place is a fun place with lots of shops, restaurants, and bars. I love a night at Howl at the Moon - a fun singalong piano bar. And to be able to walk across A1A and be on the beach will be nice.

Don't forget about the Disney outlet store that is in Sawgrass Mills Mall - it's a long drive from Beach Place, but it might give you a little Mickey fix to get some great discounts!
