Michigan represent! Frankenmuth is definately Pure Michigan. Lol! I've been going to Birch Run a couple of times a year my whole life.

I'd skip Tony's. I'm always grossed out by the ginormous portions, and the food is no better than just average.

Bronners is, as suggested, wonderful.

There's lots of touristy gift shops in Frankenmuth's downtown area.

We did the riverboat ride on the Cass river and it was both inexpensive, relaxing and kind of fun.

We usually stop in the bakery shops in the basements of Zhender's and Bavarian Inn and bring home some fresh bread, cheese spread, etc.

Don't miss Raoul's country store. The kids will like the barrels of penny candy and all the tin signs, dollhouse furniture, etc.

Another Michigander checking in. We Love Love Frankenmuth!! Never eaten at Tony's. We always go straight down the road after shopping at Birch Run to Zhenders. Love that place. In fact we were there about a month ago. Chicken is DELICIOUS!! So are the buttered noodles. I'm getting hungry thinking about it! Oh and they are also building a Sonic next to Birch Run. Not sure if you heard of Sonic, but they also have great food! Really popular chain restaurant in the south. Sonic is a cute burger/fries/shake place with car hops. Very cute!!

Anyhoo 2 days may be more beneficial so you won't be rushed. How long is your drive from Canada?? You may also want to stop and check out another new mall- Great Lakes Crossing. It's on the way to Birch Run. They have a lot of nice stores reasonably priced. One store I have to go to at Birch Run is the Coach outlet store. They always have GREAT discount prices on Coach purses. Really good prices!!!!

You wanted a birthday cake---Zehnders has a bakery in the basement of their restaurant that is delicious and I have seen cakes in there. If you can find the phone # you could call ahead and order and pick up at your convience, or take a chance that they have them in stock. I have had some of the baked goods and they are all very good. They are the breads etc that they serve with their dinners. Hope this helps -- enjoy your trip.

I second the recommendation for Zhender's bakery!

One thing I love about Frankenmuth... Its just like going to Germany in Epcot!

I had no idea about the bakery at Zenders - they didn't even mention it when I said that we were celebrating a birthday. But, I will definitely be checking into that! Can't pass up a bakery!

LilLil, the Coach store is definitely on our radar....my friend and I just aren't telling DH about it...
