Going through a bit of WDW withdrawal

We recently returned from our 2nd trip to WDW (our first was in 2001). It was another wonderful experience--though nothing could duplicate the magic of our first visit.

After last year's trip, I quickly talked myself into going back again this year. Now the (financial) reality is setting in that we won't be going back there until 2006--light years from now.

Experiencing WDW with my wife and three kids has given me memories I'll treasure forever--even if we never make it back.

What's your best method for overcoming WDW withdrawal? Quit thinking about it cold turkey or live vicariously through others' experiences by visiting these Disboards?

Anyway, I've really enjoyed reading these boards and getting so much helpful advice from everyone here. Thanks for your role in adding to all the Disney magic.

Hi Fargoman!!!

I remember your first trip and how you thought it was going to be your last!! :) The Disney magic got you, huh? :) :)

I read the boards, read guide books and view Dan Murphy's picture posts here on the CB. PandyPaws has links to various Disney and DIS related picture threads in her signature. The Trip Report board is always a great place to get a Disney Fix. It's fun answer questions for people on the trip planning boards too. :)

The ONLY way I can go through withdrawal is to have another trip booked or planned. We will be there in November. Our kids ( 3 & 7) have been many times (5 & 7) so now we are making a list of different things we want to do that we haven't done before.

Another good fix is to come to the DIS. I also like Deb's site. Yesterday I was over their reading the menus :)

I went through the same thing after our trip in November. I actually gave the boards up for a while because I was so depressed. I didn't know when we'd be able to go back again.

But I was able to talk my dh into going back November 2003. Hopefully I can save up enough money by then. He doesn't think we can do it and wants to wait till 2004, but I want to try!

Anyway...... I know where you're coming from. I think planning a trip is so much fun and even though it seems far off in the future, it's still fun to plan and plan and plan! Maybe you'll be surprised and be able to go sooner! :Pinkbounc :bounce:

Well my last trip was in Oct. 2000, so I sort of know how you feel. To get me through it, I'd come here and look at the many pictures everyone posts, read their trip reports. I also go to other Disney websites and read other various things. I like reading through my many guide books I have lying around the house and I'll even price out a trip here and there just for fun. Don't worry about when you'll make it there. I thought after my DH was laid off last year that it would be until 2005 before I could get back... check my sig and you'll see that I do very much plan to be there in December. Things work out. In the mean time, let youself dream and you'll be back before you know it :)

If you don't really plan on going back to Disney for another 4 years, the DIS is the worst place to be!

This place fuels a Disney addiction more than anything else combined! At least, it does for me.

Hang out here long enough, and you'll be feeding a change jar and having garage sales in no time. Heck, you might even get the urge to take a part-time job at the Disney Store.

Honestly, the DIS should have a warning label about Disney addiction like the one you see on cigarette packages.

"If you don't really plan on going back to Disney for another 4 years, the DIS is the worst place to be!"

that's the god's honest truth! when i'm not planning a trip and i venture off the cb/db, i get depressed. LOL

Isn't the withdrawal terrible? I just spend time on the DIS. It helps some but it isn't a cure :(

I keep up with Disney news by reading these boards and other websites. I read the Unofficial Guide too much. Looking at pics of WDW (especially Dan's!) always seems to help, although sometimes it makes me want to go there more and I get sad. Then I go to www.expedia.com, look up airfare, go in and tell my mom what the airfare is if it is a good deal, and then listen to her tell me no. :( Then the cycle repeats all over again, lol.

If you have a Disney store, nearby, I would visit that. Just being around Disney stuff helps. :)

Thanks for all the kind words of support. It's nice to know LOTS of people go through the same type of post-WDW syndrome. You all do a great job of keeping me fired up about Disney.

THANKS AGAIN!

I can relate, living in Hawaii, it's difficult to make it out to WDW because of the cost-factor. So far I've been averaging about once every 3 years, but I consider myself lucky compared to others I know who are lucky if they can even go once in their lifetime.

In addition to everyone else's suggetsions, I also order one of the free WDW videos (practically every year) and watch it. Also, one of my hobbies (if you can call it that!) is scrapbooking, so that takes up some time and I can really look over all of my pictures. Sometimes I'll just look at my old scrapbooks. And, I save EVERYTHING from my trips (I even have a "wet paint" sign). If I can't fit it in my scrapbook, I have it in a separate box and I'll look through it.

My feeling is, it's never too early to plan! Start planning and saving for your 2006 now. Create a savings plan (I even have a separate travel account) and do things like the others mentioned, maybe a second job or sell some unnecessary items in your home. I also put away a little from each paycheck. Another idea is to determine a fixed amount, no matter how small, that you can afford from each paycheck to get Disney Dollars from the Disney store and start saving. Maybe you could even plan your dream trip, where you want to stay, what you want to eat, etc. and set a goal for yourself. It's not as great as being there, but if you keep planning and dreaming about your next trip, it'll motivate you even more!

It was easier for me to plan a trip this year if I could get DH interested. He doesn't care for WDW but he was VERY intrigued by the possibility of visiting Southern California particularly since he was stationed there when he was in the Navy. So problem solved, a trip complete with Disney fix. ;)

I haven't been to WDW since November 2000, and with no plans to go back in the near future. However, I find that DIS-ing helps me to 'relive' some of the feelings I had down there and just helps me get over that withdrawal if you will. :)
