I have not been to WDW since we moved closer to DL in 2008. I am clueless as to what they have going on and ran into this...

We apparently are going to WDW during the Star Wars weekends. I have heard that the parks can get super busy. We will be there May 25-May31st. Are the parks packed during the week as well?

Are there things to avoid that are usually Star Wars themed? I heard they turn the drive in at Hollywood Studios into a character meet & greet?

Any tips? The Star Wars movies scare my kid something fierce, so I want to avoid running into Darth Vader. :)

Thanks in advance.

I have not been to SWW in a while...

But that is an event exclusively at DHS and only Fri-Sunday (hence the weekend part of the title). Monday-Thursday should see "less" Star Wars action with exception of the Star Tours attraction and things in that immediate vicinity. So if you can avoid the weekend, then you should be able to tour DHS like normal. I think Darth only comes our for Jedi training that is at a specific location you can easily avoid.

Hopefully others can address what it is like on the weekend should you opt to go then.

In addition to avoiding DHS Friday-Sunday, don't book a breakfast or early lunch at SciFi. If the SW breakfasts are running long, Darth will be inside the entrance to SciFi. Also avoid H&V for dinner if you don't want your kids to see Mickey, Minnie and friends in SW attire.

Star Wars Weekends is DHS only and then really only on Fri-Sun. There are some things that go all week (character dining and shops I believe) but no actual events.

If you're concerned about the crowding I'd just go to DHS earlier in the week and do the other parks on the weekend.

Echo what pp said. Don't go to DH on Friday, sat, or sun. You will be fine then.

Avoid DHS on Fri/Sat/Sun and you will hardly realize that Star Wars Weekend is happening. During the week some of the people visiting for SWW may still wander the parks with lots of SW tshirts and "Disney Bounding" clothes, but it won't be the full on costumes for characters (such as Darth Vader). DHS during the week will still have a lot of posters and such up with Darth and others, but the actual costumed characters will not be wandering.

However....that is Memorial Day, and for the last 2 years that is about the time for the 24 hour Disney Day.......so yeah, that time of the year it is going to be quite busy.

My guess is that Thursday will be a GREAT day to attend DHS. We went last year FOR Star Wars Weekend - and spent our Thursday arrival day at Epcot, then went to DHS about 2pm. We were able to get on EVERYTHING - and waits were SUPER short. I think that touring plans in retrospect even called it a '2' day. Check it out for your weekend. Yours is Memorial Day weekend - but should have good availability that day.

Thank you everyone for your help and input. We've scheduled accordingly and are going to avoid Hollywood Studios on the weekend we are there. Maybe a good day to take in Epcot and Animal Kingdom. :)

Cheers.

Stay out of DHS on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays. They will still have Jedi Training on the weekdays, so steer clear of the stage by Star Tours while it's going on if you don't want your kid to have a glimpse of the Dark Lord. The meal at Sci Fi is only at breakfast, the restaurant goes back to its regular service for lunch and dinner, there's a dinner at H&V but it features the much less threatening Darth Goofy.
