We're planning on going in May and I'm curious as to how crazy we are! Is anyone else planning being there for the kick-off to the celebration? We won't be... but we'll be there shortly thereafter!

I'm trying to get a feeling for how crazy we are!
I love Disneyland, but we don't really love crowds!

I would love to be there, but my son will still be in school. We'll make it in early June.

I'm not sure too many people are planning on the May 5 kickoff. I've heard more folks planning on July 17, the actual anniversary. If I had my choice, I'd go both times, but then again, any excuse to go to DL is good enough for me.

I'll be there for sure on the 17th in July, have my room already. May is still up in the air. My dad & stepmom want to do a long weekend with the kids in may but not sure what weekend. My oldest wants that weekend! He's such a disney freak :earboy2:

My fiance & I have already requested May 4th - May 6th off from work. Even though Disneyland won't be open on the 4th, I think we'll just hang out at DCA. We have annual passes so we might as well. We've braved DL on 4th of July and New Year's Eve in the past so I don't expect the kickoff to be that much worse. I won't hold my breath though. :D

:cool1:I'm looking forward to my first kick-off at any Disney park. I've been to DL and DW a number of times each and I've never braved the so-called crowded times for special celebration openings. Well, I'm finally going to do it.

I did give us extra days to enjoy the parks after the big opening. :groom:

We'll be there the weekend before Memorial Day, to celebrate DH's birthday. We'll be staying at the GCH Sunday and Monday nights, so we'll have three days to realx and enjoy. We have AP's so we don't have to do everything all at once.
But, I admit, I don't understand what will be different for the 50th. They aren't adding any NEW attractions (are they?). So what is the big deal. I've heard a lot of hype, but I'm not sure what will be special during this time.
Does anybody know?

This is what I've read so far...

Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters will be debuting (similar to WDW).
New firework show...Remember… Dreams Come True.
New Parade...Walt Disney's Parade of Dreams
Also Space Mountain will reopen in Nov.

Read in more detail here (the DL stuff is toward the bottom)..

I can't wait!!! :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

I'll be there both May 4 - 9th and then again July 15th - 20th. I want to be able to say I was there for both celebrations. Not looking to do many attractions, just soak up the experience. Got my hotel reservations very early at the Hilton as well.

We will be there, booked from the UK before realising it was the 50th! Hoping to maybe go just before (2nd?) so the little one (3 years) can go on some of the rides without mega queues, then if we go on the 6th or 7th it won't be as much of a problem if it's packed? It was hard enough last year at Orlando when we had to say that a 2 1/2 hour queue for Winnie the Pooh was not really feasible with a 2 year old! Ended up planning the whole day so he didn't even see the ride to get excited!

Think we might go to Magic Mountain on the 5th and hope the 50th takes the crowds in the opposite direction!

Well we have plans on going for the 50th to say we were there. DH is trying his hardest to get out of it. (he hates crowds) So far we will be driving in on the 4th and leaving the 7th. Long lines and all the kids can then say they were there.
DH thinks we should wait and go at a later time. He says the party goes for 18 months. Anyone have ideas on what "specail" things will be happening on those days that may not be happening on the others? :earboy2:
