looking for some tips on how you beat the heat and rain in june,.

anyone have any special gear they take or tips on best times....
have been to world in fall and august...

is the humidity and heat the same as in august?

Buy a spray fan. They cost about $4 at Walmart, but $17 at the parks. Best advice there is....

I second the little spray fan advice - they are lifesavers and I wouldn't go in the hot weather without one - and carry extra batteries - it is very refreshing to fill them up with cold water from the water fountains!

We also get up and into the parks early - leave midday for a swim and a nap in the airconditioning - then head back out into the (lesser) heat in the evening. I always stick a water bottle or two into the freezer, wrap them in paper towels (or a wash cloth) and carry them in a zip lock bag so they don't get my backpack wet. After an hour or two we use the cold, wet towels to wipe our faces and drink the cold water.

Taking a midday break was a must for us. That hour or so back at the resort pool (or napping) makes a huge difference.

Another vote for a mid-day break. We always get to a park early and leave before the noon crowds and heat. Then go back later in the day. It's the afternoon sun that will wipe you out. Make sure everyone drinks plenty of water....even if they are not feeling thirsty. Extremely important to stay hydrated. My DS and I stop at almost every fountain to get a drink. I also have read that you can get ice and ice water from any food stand for free.

Get out of the parks mid-day and swim. I like to make an early evening/late afternoon table service meal for each day. That way we get one good meal in the a/c. Otherwise I find everyone is just too darned hot to eat and we get run down. Drink a lot. Not thirsty?? Still drink and use the restrooms a lot. I also love our water mister spray fan. Just be careful not to spray everyone around you..some people get a tad disturbed if they get soaked by a nearby fan/mister in the hands of a kid!!! I bought those gel filled neck-ties last summer. You soak them in water and refridgerate them. Then, you tie them around your neck...look kind of like a cowboy tie. But, while my dh and dd laughed at me...I was actually cooler than they were....so, laugh away fools!!! Take some breaks and get off your feet. Just plop down on a bench and people watch. And don't try to do it all/see it all. During the summer it just isn't going to happen. Pace yourself and you should be okay. Oh yes...don't forget some ponchos. Either be prepared to pay about $6 for a WDW one or bring some of the $1 disposable ones from home. It will rain, every day...sometimes quite hard. Put on your poncho and keep on trekking!!

Here is another vote for a hand spray fan. This saved us during June. Also wear a wide brimmed hat and create your own shade. We also go early, stop for an early lunch in air conditioning and then head to the water. By 4 oclock you are ready to head back and can bear the heat again.

Lightweight light colored loose fitting clothing. Hats with visers, sunglasses. Shoes that are comfy but don't make your feet hot. Mid day breaks and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots of water. Keeping hydrated is probably the most important thing. Drink more than you even think you need to.

Alternate standing in hot lines with watching shows in the cool air conditioning.

Oh.. I forgot the most important thing.

Have fun. it really isn't THAT bad.. just take it slow and play it smart. You will be fine. :)

August is worse than June!!!

I agree with the midday break, but since I don't like to swim or even go back to the resort during the day, I always plan a sitdown lunch around 1 or 2. That way you're in the air conditioning and out of that hot blazing sun, and your meal is cheaper than dinner!! I also always plan to break up long outdoor waits with indoor attractions that I might not normally visit (ie. Hall of Presidents, American Adventure, etc). I also have plenty of bottled water!! Definitely don't drink soda on a hot day as the caffeine only further dehydrates you!!
