Going in January 2006How are the crowds and what is the weather usually like Jan 2 thru 8? :confused3

I love going in January the cooler temps make the day at the park more enjoable....and there is basically no crowds.

Weather is unpredictable, last year the beginning of our vacation was shorts & t-shirts, middle was lots of rain and the end was pants and a light sweater.

See you in January

Angela

I love going in January too. As the above poster mentioned, the only downside is the weather is so unpredictable. Last January it was beautiful the entire week we were there, upper 70's/low 80's and no rain. The year before however was freezing. We wore our winter coats at night for a good part of the trip.

Makes packing more difficult, as you essentially have to prepare for any extreme, from shorts and t-shirts to hats and mittens, but the lack of crowds more than makes up for it.

Have a great trip!

We've gone every January since 2001 and the weather can be unpredictable but it is a great time to go. I much rather wear pants and a light jacket and hve no crowds than go in July and pass out from the heat. Who would think that I don't like the heat and I'm a Firefighter. Go figure!!! Maine :firefight

That's wonderful that you can go every year. My daughter and I went in 1996 when she was 11, and I haven't been back since then. I am so looking forward to this trip in January. Thanks for the reply. :earsgirl:

Dh and I will be there from the 5th to the 11th and love going in Janaury. I agree, I would rather wear jeans and have no crowds than be all hot and sweaty waiting in line. See ya there!

we are doing a land/sea in Jan. we will be staying @ the Poly from 1/7 thru 1/12.Can't wait! Will the kids be able to swim? That's their plan!LOL

We'll be at OKW Jan 1-8 with our daughter and two grandsons. It's always been a great time to go - decorations still abound and crowd level is usually low to moderate. Weather can be spotty - we've had it in the 80's and in the 40's over the years. Enjoy!! ::MickeyMo

What a coincidence! My DH and I were there in January 96 and haven't been there since. Can't wait for this January!! See you there maybe.

The pools are all heated so you can swin anytime. Last year we spent one day at BB the first week of January and were not cold.

We were there this past January for the MLK weekend. Arrived on a Thursday and it was warm. The rest of the weekend we had pouring rain (one day), cold mornings (43 degrees and frost on our sliding door) but o.k. for touring. Glad we threw our slickers in the luggage at the last minute because they were great in the rain and also good as an additional layer many mornings. Our kids swam twice but, even though the pools are heated, it's hard to hang at the pool when the outside temp is 60 degrees.

Still think it's a good time to go. The crowds get much larger on the Saturday and Sunday of MLK weekend.

Bring layers (including light gloves if you get cold like me!) and you'll do fine!

We will be there for Jan 6-18 this year. I guess I'll have to pack shorts and jeans...but it has to fit in one suitcase and that could be tricky. The airlines, Continental only allows two bags per passenger, right? And one of ours will be golf clubs! Or is it two suitcases each and the golf clubs... I better go to their website and find out.

Are the Christmas trees still up then? I started a thread about that, but maybe someone here could answer.

Thanks,
Travelgirl

I don't think so. I wondered too. From what I read, it seems they disappear like magic over night around Jan. 2-3.

We'll be arriving at POFQ on the Sunday of MLK weekend. And staying until the 22nd. We can not wait. We were at Disneyland Paris back in April and it was cool...jeans and sweatshirts. We're expecting the WDW in January will be about the same.
