Going from Deluxe back to Moderate (room at moderate was filthy)

Do any of you have a hard time going from a deluxe resort back to moderate or values. Our first trip to Disney we stayed at All Star Music and loved it so much we stayed there the following year. The third year we stayed at All Star Movies and also loved it. Fourth year we upgraded to Port Orleans French Quarter and found we liked it much better than the values that we had loved so much in the past. Fifth year was Coronado Springs
Resort which we found to be great. Sixth year we were lucky enough to stay at Animal Kingdom Lodge with a beautiful savannah view. They fed the animals right in front of our balcony every morning and evening so we got some amazing pictures. Seventh year (just returned a couple days ago) we returned to French Quarter and I found that I was disappointed. I found the housekeeping to be much better at Animal Kingdom Lodge (not sure if it is because it is a deluxe or is we just got stuck with a lazy housekeeper at FQ).

Our FQ room was quite dirty. The tile floor in the bath area was very dirty. I wiped it down with a wet towel and the towel was covered with crud when I finished. The carpet also appeared not to have been vacuumed between guests. I could write my name in the dust on the furniture and the telephone was so dirty that I had to wipe it down with a lysol wipe. I realize that they have a lot of rooms to clean, but you'd think they would do one good cleaning in between guests. Every day I would leave housekeeping from anywhere between $4 to $8 hoping that she would clean the room, but this never happened!

I think if financially we can afford it we will stick to deluxe's from now on.

It sounds like you had a mousekeeper who just wasn't doing her/his job properly. Rather than leave additional tip, I would have called the main mousekeeping number and complained.

I certainly wouldn't base my entire opinion of the resort from one bad mousekeeping experience. Now, if you had complained, and nothing changed...that would be very different, and I could see why you wouldn't want to return to that resort.

And also, I'll be staying at a value for my second trip this August so I can't answer your question yet, but I'm hoping I won't have any problems going from a moderate to value. But I'm pretty easy-going and as long as I'm in Disney, I'm happy!

I'm about to stay in Beach Club for the first deluxe experience for me.

I've stayed in ALLStar Sports and Movies. I've also stayed three times in POFQ and it's my all time favorite due to size and I've never had an issue with Mousekeeping. I agree with the other comments, sounds like someone wasn't doing their job and needed to be reported!

I've got POFQ booked for 10 days in April, but checked the same dates at Beach Club... can I swing an extra $2K and stay those same days at Beach Club... ummmm.... is it worth $2K? I'm pretty sure my son's college fund could use that $2K far more than Disney.

I'll stick with my Mod and stay at POFQ!

I had a little joke with my husband that I thought our mousekeeper probably sat on our bed and watched a soap opera every afternoon instead of cleaning. We did not complain so possibly it is my fault. I don't like to get people in trouble so I am one of those people who will drive my husband nuts complaining, but wouldn't go to management for fear that someone might lose their job or something. I was also probably giving her the wrong message by continuing to tip her (she probably thought I was telling her Great Job!!). Also, the outside our room in the bushes there was trash that careless people had thrown down and it stayed in those bushes for our entire stay. Numerous cast members must have walked right past it every single day.

Oh, one last thing, upon checking in we we not told of any rules for smokers or designated areas or fines or anything. We are not smokers so it didn't really make much difference to us, but they did not know that. When we checked out and they left the express checkout stuff on our door the back of the paper that listed all the charges we had made to our room had a little thing on it about fines for smoking in rooms and balconies, but we received that on our last day. I saw tons of people smoking at our resort all over the place, balconies, just walking around, near the bus stop and not one cast member said a thing (that I saw or heard anyway) to any of these people. Also, I saw tons of people smoking throughout the parks, especially World Showcase in Epcot at night. They were everywhere!!

I'm with you on that!!!

For the OP, It's really hard to ask whether or not something would be 'worth it'. It's a personal family decision and it all comes down to what each family chooses to prioritize that money for.

It's not your responsibility to help someone keep their job that they're not doing. You would not have gotten her into trouble, she would be the one getting herself in trouble. She didnt' need any help. We would have said something. You are paying for a clean room, not a dirty one and you should have said something. Yes, leaving her a tip, she probably thought, "hey, I dont' have to do a darn thing and I still get tipped. What a great gig!"

Yes...if you let the desk know that you not satified with the cleanliness of the room right away...they will do something about it and make sure you are completely satisfied. If you wait it until the end, there really isn't much they can do to make you happy.
